This is a discussion thread titled "opinions on bugshield?", within the Aftermarket Products forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
Just got my new Crewmax, and am looking for a bugshield with no drilling. I see a Wade on ebay, but it says some applications need self tapping screws. "screw" that. Let me know of any you guys have put on and if they needed screws. They all seem to look similar, any insight appreciated.
Use a Toyota bugshield, they don't have any armor piercing screws.

I would of gone on line to look it up but i was already in a pissy mood.
I had ordered a bed mat at the same time and unrolled it to find out that the warehouse pulled the wrong one they gave me a bed mat for a 8ft bed. I had t wait to weeks on special order for that one so by the time i got home i just eye balled it. I can't complain as it looks good.
but thanks for the the conversion i will try and remember it.

Did you by chance order your bed mat from AutoParts Warehouse? I ordered a bugshield for my Tundra from them, they sent me one for a Ford 150 (how the hell you confuse those two I dunno) and now they're giving me the runaround about returning it. I refuse to pay shipping back to them- their error- but they refuse to send me a shipping label. Guess I'll let the credit card company work it out- I contested the charge and they're usually pretty good about the credit under suspicious circumstances like this.
I was supposed to get a bug shield as a gift from the dealer when I got my Tundra on June 15th, Parts guy said that all toyota bug shields had been recalled because of a problem with rubbing against the area where it is installed. They are undergoing a redesign , expected to be out into the market sometime in Aug. I took my vehicle for an oil change (1100miles) yesterday, brought my own oil of course (0W-20) which I got on sale for $5.25 Qt. I also checked on the bug shield and it still is not ready. Also learned that Toyota is working on a Fog Light kit. You can have them installed now but everything is so called ala carte. This ends up costing you between $800-$900. The kits should be around $400 including the OE rotary switch with the headlight switch. This info comes from the parts manager at the local dealership not from the dealership where I bough my vehicle, although the manager down there said that as far as he knew it was in the works, especially since the Southeast toyota people are in the business of making money and they will not let after market people steal their profits. Anyway that's the latest that I got yesterday..........

I did the ebay Wade "thing" on my previous truck. (04 Chevy Silverado) I had in-channel vent visors that were ok, but the Wade bugshield I had didn't fit properly when new. Two areas rubbed. Instead of messing with shipping and an ebayer 1/2 way across the country I broke out the dremel tool and took off the part that was rubbing and buffed it with a dremel buffing tool. It looked and worked fine, but it always bothered me that I had to mess with something new to make it fit.. Personal opinion....Wade's bugshields, ventvisors, etc are substandard quality. I'd go with the Toyota OEM or AVS if I were doing it again. I haven't personally seen any AVS products for the new Tundra yet. Guess it's a matter of waiting for them to hit the market.

I got the Vent Shade brand and it fits pretty well but there is a tad bit more of a gap between the grill and hood! With that said has anyone found a way to fit it alittle tighter to the hood?
That's the first i have heard aboub the toyota bug screen. when i installed mine i was very carefull and checked everywhere for a spot where it might rub and can't find one. i also spoke with several dealers in my area and none of them talked about a recalled bug screen.
has anyone else run into this??

I installed the Wade in-channel visors and they fit like a glove. Not a bad product for the price Looks good too
I had a Vent Visor brand bug sheild on my 2000 Tundra and didn't like it. When I first installed it it had perfect spacing, but after about a year, it seemed to warp and twist till the passanger side was touching the hood, while the drivers side still was about a 1/2 off the hood. It looked weird, so I removed it.

I have one of the Toyota bug shields on order and it is supposed to be here this week. They didn't mention anything about them being recalled. FWIW I have always thought that the Toyota made versions were made with better looking lines and better fit than the aftermarkets.
