Question Yakima or Thule truck rack

I am looking for some opinions on which rack system to go with, I am going to be carrying two 12ft kayaks, and would like to know it I am better getting a rack that sits on top of the truck or one that attaches to the bed. Also if anyone has either a Yakima or Thule why did you choose the one that you did. Thanks

You can't go wrong with Yakima or Thule, both make great products. I've been using Thule since 1993 and will continue to do so simply because I have so many pieces of the system.

I agree w/ Truth, but I use Yakima because I have so many pieces of their system. For boats w/o a camper shell, you might want to look at the Yakima Outdoorsman. Pair two of those w/ a pair of Mako Saddles, and you'll be good to go. Or one of those w/ a pair of Q Towers. The problem is, the new Tundra is pretty high, so you might want to look at a Yakima Boatloader as well. It pays for itself w/ one use, if you're loading boats solo. A 12 foot boat might work in the bed, but might be sticking out too far, especially in a CrewMax! (Just kidding) I'm sure Thule has comparable gear, and it really comes down to preference. Ageebike has ALWAYS done me right w/ Yakima and Thule.

Both are reputable companies which a good selection of accessories. I went with Yakima track racks, though I have a camper shell to mount it on. Last year I did the unthinkable and drove into my garage with my kayak on my rack. Amazingly the kayak was fine, but it did break one of the uprights on the Yakima rack. Called them up and they agreed to share the cost of a new part 50/50, even though the warranty was expired.
