Just had the 50 series installed with duals going straight out the back. Got the 3.5" curved stainless steel tips. Looks sweeet! The 40 series definitely would have been too loud for my tastes. There is a drone around 1000-2000 RPMs but it isn't bad. My brother-in-law had the 40 series installed on his F150 and my sound spanks his. The exhaust definitely turns heads.
Just wanted to post this for all those folks still looking for an exhaust and wondering how a 50 series sounds on an '04 Tundra. I think it's the exact sound I was looking for. Get it!
Well, I'm just all cornfused! One person says the 40 is way too loud and another person says it's not way too loud. The guy that installed the exhaust said the 40 would be pretty loud (louder than the 50). I've determined that opinions vary too much with exhausts. You have to hear it for yourself to decide. I can definitely hear the 50 in the cab.
By the way, when I referred to the 40 series on the F150, that was to bash Ford, not the 40 series.
I have a friend running the 50 series and inside they sound the same... outside mine owns his. the 4.7 has more of a mustang rumble than a HEMI rumble... I love the 40... DELTA that is. a reg 40 is very loud in the cabin. and ya I got your ford bash LOL
one thing... my friend has an 07 4.7... not sure if there is much difference in the cabin noise between the 2. Can't imagine it is much different from the 06 model though.
it may not help you make a decision, but i had the 50 series flowmaster installed on my 2007 5.7 and it is just right. you wont hear it too much unless you get on it. and when you do get on it you wont be dissapointed. sorry dont have any experience with the 40 series.
Yeah, I'm very happy with the 50 series. I'm not going to mess with it. I don't want to spend anymore money on the exhaust. Gotta get the bull bar, new suspension, tonneau cover, 6-ply tires.........

Yea i originally had the regular orignal 40 with turndowns. Louder than hell and sounded great, very very deep. But it was too loud in the cabin. So i had them put on some tailpipes, and it changed the sound completely. Now it sounds like a mustang. I still like it though

I did mine 2 weeks after I bought my truck and I am very happy with the sound. You can barely hear it while cruising but not enough to annoy or interupt a normal conversation. When you mash the throttle it comes to life and roars very deep. My wife loves the sound and didn't even nag when she first heard it. I didn't tell her I had done the exhaust till she asked why the truck sounded so mean!!

Really stupid question:
How much does that setup set you back?
....dont know much about aftermarket exhaust...dabbling here
The shop that did mine charged me 362.00 for everything. Muffler, custom pipes, new hangers, 2 stainless tips, tax and labor. After doing it I found I could have gotten the muffler cheaper online but it was a gotta have it thing and they had the parts and time to do it the day I drove in. You may find in your area it may be cheaper. Just make sure you go to a good shop. The shop I went to is a independant father son shop not a chain muffler store.

Yes, do not go to chain shops like Meinike or whatever. Always go to the family owned ones.
