This is a discussion thread titled "Air Tanks, Part Deux", within the Aftermarket Products forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
Anyone know who sells a stainless steel air tank? I like the Viair tanks, but they are powder coated. I want stainless steel because I will be mounting it underneath the truck.
All a man really needs for happiness in this world is a good woman, a faithful dog, and a big-a$$ed set of tires on his truck.

You'll be adding a lot of weight for nothing, not to mention stainless steel especially 304 stainless which is what an airtank will likely be, will be EXPENSIVE!!!!
I had my powdercoated tanks on for a LONG time and I never had rust problems. I never saw the VIAIR powdercoating come off either and mine were each right behind each tire and running 35" mud tires, plenty of rocks were thrown at them.
If you do find them, post up, but I haven't seen them.

I've found some 5-gal SS tanks on some of these sites that cater to the Slammed and Bagged crowd, but that may be too big for mounting under the truck.

How big are your tanks?
2.5gal. Putting a 5 gal under the truck will be pretty tricky even if it is more like a hotdog rather than a propane bottle.
I had 2 mounted under the truck so I had 5 gallons of air total. When you connect them it runs pretty seamless.

There are 6 bungs total on each tank. 1 on top 1 on bottom and 2 on each end, this way no matter how you mount them you can always have a drain valve.
They are quality tanks, I wouldn't worry too much about them. I thought for sure I was going to dent the piss out of them, but they held up really well.

Ya, for the price of stainless you can run through a few Viars's. My 1Gal has 8+ trips down Baja in the last 4-5 years. You can see all the pics of the tank and controls here... Comp/tank - Tundra Solutions Photo Gallery
I just noticed a crack on the lower mount, a few tacks fixed that. No drain, but no problem yet. With the locker either. I put a quick connect on the frame rail too, and that cheap cover has never fallen off. (I'm going to be going a lot of knocking on wood here in a min!!!)
Jim where is you compressor? Good job on shoving the 2.5 in there, I wish I had that. Airing up with that little pump and tanks SUCKS in the sun!!
3" Toytec lift in front, Diff drop, Ride Rite airbags. 305/65/18 BFG A/T's on 18x9 Ultra Magnus, Prodigy in tow/haul button cubby.

It's under the hood between the airbox and the ABS. Of course the stock airbox is no more....I have an AEM dryflow filter, mounted on a blingy chrome tube from an old SSAutochrome setup. AEM resides in a custom airbox (much smaller footprint than the OEM box).
Viair 380C with a 150psi pressure switch/relay.
If you look below the compressor you can see the mounting holes for the original airbox.
