Default Westin Nerf Bars rusting

I was down under my truck yesterday, and noticed my Westin nerf bars are starting to rust. Anyone else have this problem? These are the chome ones, not the powdercoats.

Westin Signature Series are made of mild steel, which can rust. They have a 3 year warranty.

Westing Platinum Series are made of stainless steel, which won't rust. They have a lifetime warranty.

Not all the Westins are junk, I bought the 4" ovals. They are black powder coated aluminum and have a lifetime warranty. At the time I bought them, Westin was the only company with a lifetime warranty on black nerf bars, all others were powder coated steel, guaranteed to rust, with only a 5 yr or less warranty. I will say the Sig series are junk. I had them on my 96 F-250 and they literally rust away in 3-4yrs, but then again, all cheap bars will do the same.

Let me say that I think the customer service at Westin is AWESOME.

I have Westin Platinum Series Step Bars on my 2002 AC which are chrome plated stainless steel. No rust of any kind on the outside of the bars and in Kentucky after a snow storm there are piles of salt on the road. However the mounting brackets and bolts are not s.s. and were rusting. The week before last I was attacking the rust under my truck with Rust Bullet so I went to remove the bars so I could prep and paint the frame brackets. Driver side bar came off fine, but when I went to remove the passenger side both 1/2" grade 5 bolts attaching the bar to the bracket snapped off. They were heavily rusted inside the bar. What a drag!

My first thought was to try to drill and tap the old rusted brackets inside the bar so I could rehang it. However, the next day I got to thinking "Don't these have a lifetime warranty?" Sure enough, I called the Westin 800 number and told a John what happened. He immediately said they would replace the bar. I didn't provide pictures, receipt, or anything. However, he checked inventory and there was no stock in my P/N and they didn't have any scheduled for production until late September, but he said he would check with Production. I called back later the same week and Westin was manufacturing a run of 1 just for me. It just arrived and is exactly like my original. Now if that isn't customer service, I don't know what is.
