Shockguys, can you tell me the difference between the 5100's and the HD's? My truck is not lifted, nor do I want it to be. And the only thing I am concerned about is that I tow a 6x12 enclosed trailer (~2500 lbs) about once a month and would need the better support for that. 2000, V6, 4x2.

Fred,
Thanks for your question. The 5100's are designed specifically for offroad and lifted applications and is stiffer than the HD's. They come in several 'sub' models. Both the 5100s and HD's are monotube design.
1.) 5100 Series Ride Height Adjustable Shocks. They have the ride height adjustable for 0" - 2.5" of lift on the front and 0" - 1" on the rear. These 5100's are designed specifically for front coilover styled Pickup and SUV suspensions, which utilize the front stock coil springs and are a practical alternative to coil spring spacers. These are only available for a handful of Trucks/SUVs, the Tundra is one of them. They can be used for on and offroad. These are zinc plated silver finish with black boot. There isn't a warranty offered for this shock.
2.) 5100 Series for Lifted Trucks and SUV's. These can be used with or without coilover springs (Tundra included). These have the largest piston diameter for superior handling, performance and longer life. These are designed for lifted applications up to 6" (depends on the vehicle). The Tundra shocks that are available come in 0" - 2.5" of lift on the front and 0" - 1" on the rears. These are zinc plated silver finish with black boot. They can be used for on and offroad. There isn't a warranty offered for this shock.
Bilstein Heavy Duty. These are available for stock height applications (although stock height shocks can handle up to 2" of lift). Designed for trucks and SUVs. There is a warranty offered for this shock.
You mention you tow 2,500 lbs with your trailer occasionally. Does the rear of your truck sag when towing? How much distance are you traveling? These would all be factors of what to go with.
If the rear is sagging I would recommend the HD's on the front and Airlift Ride Control on the rear to level the vehicle. They allow for 2,000 lbs of towing (per side) = 4,000 lbs max.
However the Airlift's can be pricey, so it comes down to the answers to my questions above and if you want to spend more on the application or just deal with the sagging if you aren't traveling a far distance once a month towing.

Reason: Added link to price match page
TireRack does have yall beat right now. $166.65 for 2 Adj 5100's and that is with shipping. They have ya'll beat by about $20 or half a tank of gas. I bought from yall previously. But if I was doing it again, and I may be here soon, TireRack as much as I dislike them, would get my business. Just my half a cent.

There are instances, that's why we'll price match anybody. We've been in business since the 70's, online since '96 have been a Bilstein distributor for over 20 years.

If you dislike tirerack.com, why wouldn't you do business with a great forum supporter like shockwarehouse.com? Especially since they specialize in the product, are spending time answering our questions here, and will meet or beat any price around?

Thanks Duffy,
I believe us and Wheelers price match (they are forum supporters too I believe), so it's a matter of personal preference there.

Its not about likes/dislikes...it is bottom line. If another company has a better price for the item that I want to purchase, as long as they are reputable, I will do business with them. Its dollars and sense! Tough economic times. I did business with shockwarehouse and was telling other members on here to use them as well in the past. $20 may be nominal...but thats a case of beer or something else.
