Its not about likes/dislikes...it is bottom line. If another company has a better price for the item that I want to purchase, as long as they are reputable, I will do business with them. Its dollars and sense! Tough economic times. I did business with shockwarehouse and was telling other members on here to use them as well in the past. $20 may be nominal...but thats a case of beer or something else.
Kane,
Completely understandable. It comes down to saving anything. We appreciate your business in the past and hope for your continued support. I just wasn't sure if you were aware we price match.

Thanks for your question. The 5100's are designed specifically for offroad and lifted applications and is stiffer than the HD's. They come in several 'sub' models. Both the 5100s and HD's are monotube design.
1.) 5100 Series Ride Height Adjustable Shocks. They have the ride height adjustable for 0" - 2.5" of lift on the front and 0" - 1" on the rear. These 5100's are designed specifically for front coilover styled Pickup and SUV suspensions, which utilize the front stock coil springs and are a practical alternative to coil spring spacers. These are only available for a handful of Trucks/SUVs, the Tundra is one of them. They can be used for on and offroad. These are zinc plated silver finish with black boot. There isn't a warranty offered for this shock.
2.) 5100 Series for Lifted Trucks and SUV's. These can be used with or without coilover springs (Tundra included). These have the largest piston diameter for superior handling, performance and longer life. These are designed for lifted applications up to 6" (depends on the vehicle). The Tundra shocks that are available come in 0" - 2.5" of lift on the front and 0" - 1" on the rears. These are zinc plated silver finish with black boot. They can be used for on and offroad. There isn't a warranty offered for this shock.
Bilstein Heavy Duty. These are available for stock height applications (although stock height shocks can handle up to 2" of lift). Designed for trucks and SUVs. There is a warranty offered for this shock.
You mention you tow 2,500 lbs with your trailer occasionally. Does the rear of your truck sag when towing? How much distance are you traveling? These would all be factors of what to go with.
If the rear is sagging I would recommend the HD's on the front and Airlift Ride Control on the rear to level the vehicle. They allow for 2,000 lbs of towing (per side) = 4,000 lbs max.
However the Airlift's can be pricey, so it comes down to the answers to my questions above and if you want to spend more on the application or just deal with the sagging if you aren't traveling a far distance once a month towing.
Thanks for the reply, Shockguy. Yes, I get some serious sag when I tow the trailer. I use it to haul my racing motorcycles around the east coast, so I'm usually towing it up to 1000 miles round trip about once/month.
The way it is, it rides fine. I'm mostly concerned that the sag is wearing out the shocks and leaf springs.
Do the F4-BE5-6929-HO fit in the stock location, and can they be adjusted w/o modification? Also, do you sell HD springs /w these shocks?
Thanks.
Lewis,
Those CAN fit at stock height, you don't need to relocate the spring perch if going with stock height. Generally folks don't use them that way because there's no warranty and they just go with the HD's (stock height). We don't sell the coil over springs though. You can use your stock springs with these.

Fred,
My pleasure. With that distance driving I would be concerned with the sag as well. It will certainly wear out your shocks over time and potentially do damage to your trailer. I would look into the Airlift set up for the rear, it will level the rear out, because it's used in conjunction with your rear shocks.
Feel free to let me know any further questions you may have.

- 5150, which have the attached reservoir for custom applications.
- 5125, for custom applications.
- 5100, for lifted trucks/suv's.
- 5100, ride height adjustable. Coilover fronts. Available, Tacoma, Tundra and FJ Cruisers (among a handful of other makes/models).
The latter are what you are referring to and have a lifetime warranty. The others do not. Seeing they are mostly used in off road or racing applications and get some serious abuse (generally).

Not sure I quite get the difference here. What I am reading on Bilstein's website states the 5100 ride height adjustable shocks have a lifetime warranty (in the press release). It does not say "coil-over" shocks there.
I also do see a separate statement regarding the coil-overs. I also see under the warranty page a listing of all the shocks with 90 day warranties. It also says if you do off-roading the warranty does not apply. I get that because abuse will more than likely happen in those circumstances.
Thanks again.

I can totally vouch for the airlift system. I have been running that system (on my third truck) for years and it is great! There are several ways to set it up with or without on board compressor and it helps with payload and/or trailer load. I have a shell, lumber rack and minimum 500 lbs of tools in the back of my truck at all times. I also occasionally hookup an 18 foot trailer with my little tractor on there.
Shockguy,
Given my hauling around weight on a regular basis would I be better off with the HD Bilsteins? I really would like to lift my truck just a little so I can get some 275s on there easily the next time I buy tires... or maybe 285s?
Also is that promo code still good? I will be purchasing this week. Thanks

Highlevel,
The Ride Height Adjustables are designed for front coilover style suspensions. You can use the stock springs with these or equivalent with these shocks.
Here's the warranty info you are referring to:
If at any time after purchase or installation, the shock malfunctions and Bilstein determines it to be defective, we will either replace it or repair it.
There are only a few specific exceptions to this warranty. They include:
Original equipment shock absorbers - which are warrantied by the original equipment manufacturer.
Improper installation,
Racing, driving competition or off-road use,
Use on modified or other than Bilstein-recommended vehicles.
Bent or broken Rods showing abuse or abnormal wear
The limited 90 day warranty is more of a ride satisfaction warranty but doesn't cover normal wear and tear as outlined here:
Bilstein warrants to the original retail purchaser that, for a period of ninety (90) days from the date of purchase, this product shall be free from defects in material and workmanship. Any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness or fitness for particular purpose, except as may be prohibited by applicable law, is likewise limited in duration to ninety (90) days from the date of original retail purchase. Some States do not allow limitations on how long an implied warranty lasts so the above limitation may not apply to you.
This warranty is non-transferable and does not cover normal wear and tear or any other loss, liability or damage resulting from improper alteration, disassembly, handling, installation, service, repair or use of this product.
Should this product fail as a result of a defect in materials or workmanship within the warranty period, contact Bilstein's Customer Service Department by telephone at 1-800-537-1085, or in writing at ThyssenKrupp Bilstein of America 14102 Stowe Drive, Poway, California, 92064, for repair or replacement at Manufacturer's option. Do not return this motorsports product to the place of purchase.
Repair or replacement as provided by this warranty is customer's sole and exclusive remedy in the event of a product failure. Manufacturer shall not be liable for any incidental, consequential or other damages resulting from the disassembly, handling, installation, service, repair or use of this product.
Hope this helps answer your question.

Is this the vehicle you are running the Airlift system on? If not does your truck sag with the weight of the tools and your trailer? The Airlift's we carry provides 1,000 lbs of leveling per side on the rear. So I would recommend those it that is the case (Airlift Aircell). However, it depends on how high you plan on lifting the truck. You would need to consult the lift manufacturer to determine if Airlift's systems will even work with the lift (kit) you go with.
This also applies to your next question about the Bilstein HD's. It depends on how high you lift the vehicle. Stock height shocks such as the HD's can work with up to 2" of body lift. Anything larger you would need to go with the 5100, 5125, etc.
Hope that helps with this segment of your question.

Thanks for that info, Highlevel. I ordered the HD's from shockwarehouse on friday, I'm going to try those for now and see how it goes. My stock shocks are dead after 120,000 miles, so I wanted to replace those first before I did anything else.
I used the promo code 'ten' on friday and got 10% off! Awesome, helped a lot on a $300 deal. Now just waiting for them to ship so I can put them on.
Thank you very much for the information. I also contacted Bilstien directly because of some conflicting warranty information. I have it clear now.
Yes, I have the air lift system (59530) on my 2006 4WD double cab non TRD. All the suspension is currently stock. I have some bounce from the rear shocks which is why I started looking around.
I am planning on raising the vehicle just a little. I will raise it about 2" - 2 1/2" or so in front and maybe 1" - 1 1/2" or so in back I would like to get a slight lift and level it out. My stock rake is unknown because I failed to measure it before putting on the rack and the shell.
I ordered the 5100s from your site yesterday. I got the BE5-6929-H0 for the front and the F4-BE5-A014-H5 for the rear. I may have moved to quickly on the rear ones because what I have read states you can lift only 1" with those and the HDs can go 2". I also figured on an AAL and that apparantly raises the rear 1 1/2". Should I return 5100s for the rear that I ordered and get the HDs?
Maybe they haven't even shipped yet. Thanks again.
