Default Bed cover installation question

Hello All.

I just got an 09 DC and I've been looking to add a bed cover. I love the hard cover, but the dealer tells me that I'm looking at around 1500 bucks. As an alternate I see there are a few covers in the 500-600 range that I might consider, but from photographs and some rough installation instructions I've seen they seem to require the bed rail kit for installation. Is this true? Can I install any of these after market covers without the bed rail kit?

Thanks in advance for responses.

I've got a soft tonneau on mine but a friend of mine has an Undercover and loves it. No bed rail required.

The undercover or armorlid both install without the rail being necessary...

This is my second Undercover. I had one on my Tacoma DC Prerunner. I sold that truck to get this Tundra. I put a new undercover on it within a week or two of buying the truck. They are the best bang for your buck IMHO. They are also indestructible.

You can order one that installs on a Tacoma or Tundra without the deck rail system. Check around your local dealers. My Line-X dealer cut me a deal to get the bed sprayed and the Undercover tonneau at the same time.

See photos below.
