I think, from what I've read that the Tacoma and 4 runner don't have the same anti knock sensing/ignition retarding system for the lower rpms the Tundra has. So the 7th injector was particularly set up to address the pinging issues they have had. At least that's what my understanding was. I will see what kind of reply I get from TRD about the 7th injector for the Tundra in the next couple days
I hear it hasn't been DOT/emmission certified yet for the Tundra. TRD advised me to check back in Jan or Feb 04.
Maybe first quarter of '04? That's cool - since I can't put an SC on my T100
I'm thinking maybe tradeing for an '01 V6 Tundra 2 or 4WD, then get blown.

I think that it would have to, to an extent. It also means about 22% more torque. I would also assume it would depend largely upon style of driving. Same as with the SC alone. I dropped nearly 2 mpg on the remainder of the tank I had after install, but that was also not my normal driving So far on this next tank with normal driving it seems to be about the same, will have to wait a bit to know for sure.I would think that it would mean a drop in mpg to an extent, but it also means another 22% additional torque from what I've read. I would also have to assume that it would depend a lot on driving style. Same as with the SC alone. I am still waiting to get enough miles for a numbers comparison but so far during normal driving it looks to be about the same mpg. As opposed to right after the install and the remainder of that tank I dropped nearly 2 mpg from normal, but that was definitely not my normal driving either

Why not just get another V8 Tundra. A s/c V6 pushed to the limits would have just as much power as a stock V8. My dad has a '01 Tundra with K&N, JBA headers and TRD duals. I raced him when I had my lighter weight '01 Tacoma with TRD S/C, headers, and exhaust. I jumped to a 1 car lead off the bat but my dad was on my bumper all the way to 105 mph. I think a heavier V6 Tundra with all the goodies would be even slower than my Tacoma.
I've actually been thinking about going back to a Tacoma myself and getting another S/C with the 7th injector kit. I'll get another cat-back set up but will stay away from the TRD headers this time.

I think a 2wd V6 regular cab Tundra would be the hot ticket for an all out SC'd performance truck.
I like the V6 SC over the V8 SC because it has been used and refined for many years. IMHO it's a better pkg.
The 7th injector would make it even better.
I like the regular cab Tundra because it is lighter than all other V6 Tundra's.
That said, I'll leave my Tundra power plant all stock ... no headers, cat-back or SC.

I hear what you are saying. I'd like a s/c for the tundra, but I have'nt heard much good about it. Sounds like a unichip would fix it..but spending $1000 on top of the $4K price tag for the S/C isn't worth it to me. If I can get rid of my Tundra...I'll go back to a Taco. A s/c reg cab tundra could be cool though. at this point..if I could do with out a pickup I'd go to a sports car...a new RX-8.

Being in the sticks 70 plus days a year off-roading and hunting, I have no use for an automatic transmission. They ever get a manual/v8 combo, I'm there...

Does the Taco use the same front suspension design as the Tundra?
That RX-8 is a sweet ride! Love that Wankle.
If I didn't have to have a truck I think I would settle for an older NSX

So, I get an email from TRD that says they will not be making the 7th injector for the Tundra. Call them back and speak to the same rep that tells me in December it should be released by Feb/March of 04, same rep that tells me before my last post that it just still isn't ready yet, and now he says he has no idea what is going on. Anyway, it seems now they will not even be working on this. What a pisser.

That sucks. Keep us posted if you find out anything different.
