Ok, I found 2 places that will make them.

www.empirefiberglass.com/products_services.html

Here is the Email I received from Neil Baum

"Hi Bill,
We would have no problem suppling these to you or for you. The safe load on a 30 " span is 600lbs. with a 5 to 1 safety factor.
We would supply these in grit top finish., color green at $150 per pair, size 5' x 1' x 1 1/2" tk. and $120 for size 4' x1' x1 1/2" and shipping included (UPS Ground) for each pair.
Thanks,
Neil Baum"

I bought 1 set (two) of 5' x 1' x 1 1/2" tk. (1 section weighs about 19 lbs)

NOTE: I had to pay by check, they do not take Credit cards.

The specs for 1-1/2" Thick x 1-1/2" Square Mesh x 12" Wide

SPAN
Inches Break Point (lbs)

12 7800
18 5200
24 3900
30 3100
36 2600
42 2200
48 1700

After doing some math I figured I should have gone with the 2" Thick stuff. (I plan on using the 2" thick stuff for Bridging and the 1-1/2 stuff for sand ladders) So I tried www.amgrating.com They had a better price for the 2" stuff.

Jim Ho is the person you want to talk to for Amgrating.
Here is the Email I received from Jim Ho

"Bill,

For the 2" grating, If you can use 1' x 4' your price is $100.00 for two..
For 1' x 5', Your price is $150 for two.

Thanks,

Jim"

I bought 1 set of 5' x 1' x 2" tk (1 section weighs about 22.8 lbs very lightweight)

The specs for 2" Thick x 2" Square Mesh x 12" Wide

SPAN
Inches Break Point (lbs)

36 7496
42 5143
48 4300
54 3323
60 2346

Note: The grating will Deflect (bend) long before it breaks. Check out there websites to see some pics. Then run a fork lift up on it.

So far I have only received the 1-1/2 stuff today. I will post pic's later. If you call or email them tell them you want grating for off road use.

This stuff works great if you get stuck! Just jack up your truck and lay the grating under the tire then lower the jack an go! (I use a Hi-lift jack in my front or rear receiver) Ok I'm done.

as of today, those prices are still good through amgrating. for reference to the vehicle, gawr rear is 3700# (the front is less), or about 1850# per wheel, which is still below the breaking strength (dunno about plastic deformation) of the [2"x2"x2"]x1'x5' piece. five feet is a long way...more than sufficient to cross large cracks and climb small ledges.

Default dang...

i shoulda ordered when i last posted, the guy i talked to at amgrating yesterday was the opposite of help--first thing he says when i mention theyre for offroad use is "we dont recommend that." then he goes on to say they only have 4'x12' sheets for sale, to the tune of over 500 bucks .

i'm going to try them again today, see if i get someone different, and i'm going to try the other place as well, i'll post what i find out.

*update* i spoke with both neil baum at empire, and collin at amgrating, both were very helpful. the pieces need to be located from scrap, they are willing to look, but scrap is the key, otherwise the entire sheet must be purchased.

*nuther update* collin at amgrating just called me back, here's what i've got...he located a section of 3'x7' scrap, i got that piece with cuts for 200 even. it'll be cut in half the long way, then trimmed to 5' long, i'm getting all four pieces--1.5'x5' fits perfectly widthwise in the bed, and provides some slop room for wider tires. the 2' long sections will come in handy as well, i'm sure...no more lugging around bits of 2x4. they are performing all the cutting and resin treatment, so they're ready to use as soon as they arrive. funny: he asked me if i cared if theyre bright orange .

both suppliers were very helpful, i think it would just depend on who has scrap available at the time. amgrating happened to have a perfect section of 2" scrap. also fwiw neil baum at empire remembered bill's order from over a year ago, i'd say that's a great argument for ordering there, also empire is east coast (NY), amgrating is west coast (CA), shipping might make a difference since even tho one ladder is ~20#, two plus smaller mats is ~60#.

Does anyone know where I can get some of these Bridging ladderss (in the U.S.)

You should look at www.terra-trax.com. These Sand Ladders are very durable. 2" thick with gritted traction surface. The can also be used as bridgeing ladders.

Hello. New member found this thread on google. Curious how the terrra trax ladders work in rocky trails with a 5-6000 lb rig.
