Greetings! Just became a new member yesterday. Also just bought a new 2005 Tunda from a dealer yesterday !
Has anyone here heard of or has installed this parking sensor? http://www.echomaster.com/hitchscan.htm
I am think of getting one. My Tundra comes with towing package. Any input is appreciated! Thank you!
WEESA Thanks for posting that. I've been looking for a back-up sensor for a while. Cost and a complicated install has kept me from looking seriously at the type that has sensors in the bumper.
Thanks again

So, I took the liberty of calling the 800 # listed on the page link and asking a few questions. First and formost... it's not available just yet. Seems there are some FCC rules and regs., which they've got to get iorned out before they can release it. For whatever it's worth, that does seem to make sense. Secondly, I was told they "don't" have a price for it yet, but the guy did offer me a ball park figure, which he said would probably be somewhere in the $300 range.
That isn't bad, considering the alternative option, offered by this same company, which is a perminately attached back-up unit. It's also priced as a wholesale item, which means it's geared toward a local shop that would install it for you, and price is based on that install price. He said that could range anywhere from $250 to $400.
That CERTAINLY makes this wireless design a more attractive alternative, especailly to those with a leased truck, or for someone who has more than one truck.

That's very nice of you taking the trouble finding out the info for us.
Hopefully, the product will be available soon!
Thanks again!
I purchased it and have been using it for a month. Works just as advertised. There are three different warnings. Green - slow beep, yellow - faster beep, red - solid beep. At the red, yo still have 3 feet to go so you need to get used to the warnings.
Fit right into my trailer hitch and the remote is in one of the power ports in front.
Where did you buy it and how much was it? Looking at the link in the original post, it looks like it can only be purchased from a new car dealer. This would be a great group buy item.
Couldn't tell from reading the link, but does the hitchscan react to cars behind you? Seems like it would be on constantly if it does and you were in heavy traffic. Thanks for the link.
Correct. Only get signals when in reverse. Sometimes, backing out of my driveway, as I reach the bottom, I get a beep as the truck in on a slight incline.
I just talked to 3rd Eye Protection, they now have FCC approval and are selling their wireless parking radar. I ordered it today, will give feedback after I install it. You do have to drill the bumper for the sensors, but it is half the cost of the hitch mounted unit.

Hi jmc318,
In my search for a relatively simple and portable installation of a backup sensor for my 06 Tundra, I happily stumbled upon this thread. Thanks so much for posting this link to an online reseller of this device - looks really good.
When I visited the website though, it says the product available is the Dolphin Wireless Reverse Sensing Systems Sonarstep. It looks pretty much exactly the same as the original one I came across in my research, which was the Echomaster Hitchscan. Just wondering if anyone knows of any differences between the two?
Which one did you buy, and how well is it still working, if I may ask? Thanks.

Hi SGull,
Any feedback to provide on the 3rd Eye Protection by any chance? Thanks!
