Default Tundra V-6 Manual Cruise Control

Has anyone found a aftermarket cruise control that will work with an '05 V-6 manual Tundra?

I bought and started the install on this unit:

http://www.mnrelectronics.com/totucrcokit2.html

only to find out halfway through that it really can't hook into the electrics.

thanks,

ed

Yeah, the lack of cruise on the V6 seems like an oversite. Can you use the one off the newer Tacomas? I wonder what that would cost? I would think they would use the same ECU since the engine and tranny are identical.

Good idea, but I don't know. The Rostra kit was designed to work on later Tacomas too but the instructions for it showed a completely different wiring harness configuration.

It should work though. Anyone tried an OEM Taco cruise in the V-6 Tundra?

I don't know what you guys are talking about. I own a 04 Tundra with a V6 5speed manual and it came with cruise control, which works great by the way.

The '05 is a different engine implementation from the '04. The '05 has electronic throttle control, not a vacuum system like most other implementations. According to Toyota there is not currently an after purchase speed control for this engine/trans combo. Yes, a real oversight and something that troubles me. No after market folks had introduced one as of about six months ago. The thought here is that since there are so few Tundras that do no have the speed control there may not be a market for it. The hope is that Toyota will come out with one and if so it should be about $600.

Thanks for the info. Thought it must be something like that, since I think I have called every after market cruise control supplier out there. I alway get the same answer, "sorry buddy you're outa luck!".

You seem to be "in the know", if you hear about a kit being developed, please keep me posted.

thanks

Here's something to investigate: I don't know anything specific about the 4.0 V-6, but when I bought my 2005 Tundra V-8 "work truck" I was disappointed to find that it did not come with factory cruise (though the brochure and website at the time said that it would). I researched the wiring diagram and the truck itself and found that ALL of the wiring was there for factory cruise; it just lacked the switch and harness in the steering wheel. After buying the cruise switch and harness (really just a short wire with connectors) for around $55, I installed it (had to cut a hole in the small plastic cover on the side of the steering wheel that covers the bolt for the airbag; this is where the factory switch goes). Guess what? Took it for a ride, hit the switch, the green "cruise" light illuminated on the dashboard, and the cruise worked just perfect!

Hope there is something available for yours. You will have to find a really good parts guy to help you; lots of them don't know how to order the right parts. My local parts guy (who is very good) told me that it was impossible; that I'd have to buy a new ECU and it was a several thousand dollar proposition. I wound up talking with Jaffarian Volvo-Toyota in Massachusetts.

Thanks for the suggestion, but unfortunately the V-6 manual does not come pre-wired. The Rostra kit I originally bought is designed to be plug & play for the Tundra, but it turns out only works on the V-8, just as you described.

Very frustrating since it would probably cost all of $1.98 for Toyota to add the wiring for the V-6 as well!

I also own '05 Tundra V-6 manual. I have been searching for a cruise control option. I have worked with a couple dealerships and sent letter to Toyota coporate. No success. Has anyone found a solution.

It's the end of the year and I thought I would buy myself a little Christmas present, if it's around. Anyone come up with a viable cruise control, option for the V-6 manual yet?

Happy holidays!
