Default Please help !! What's this line for ?

After getting my truck from the shop , I also had them re-route my tailpipes --one on each side.

Problem is --- there is some sort of a line that is fairly close to the pipe that comes out of the driver side. I'm not sure how to describe it--- it's right on top of the diff and goes up to sometype of box with all kinds of brake lines attatched to it.

Is this a brake line ?? Not sure if it is because the end of the line is connected to a rubber thingy -- hope this is making sense ---I can't take any pictures but I hope the description is good enough.

I'm just concerned that if it is a brake line , I don't want it heating up and burning a hole right through it due to the heat. Can any one help ?? Thanks in advance for any input---

Cool Sounds like...

...if it's at the rear differential, you're referring to the drum brake proportioning system. If I had to guess, it's the solid piece of steel rod that connects the bottom of the bed to the proportioning valve assembly on the rear axle.

Thank's CJ , what does it do exactly ?? I would also like to know if it is safe to have the pipe close to it --there is about a millimeter of space between the two ----

Thanks again and appreciate the help !

Cool I stole the picture of Rose's rear end...

...for the benefit of you. If you look at the picture of her Hellwig Install where she brags about the Red Line Gear Fluid you'll see the assembly directly to the right of the #25. You can see the gold washer and nut. That assembly is part of the proportioning valve.

Since the pipes move and the rod moves, I'd be cautioned that the two might be too close and could interfere with the brakes. That is, if what you're describing is what it is that I think you're describing.

Cool I'm no expert, but...

...if it were me, I'd assume the installer of the pipes already moved it while installing the pipes. So I'd see that the adjustment was up to spec, which is covered here somewhere else.

Bending the rod, if that's what you choose to do, would most likely be ok if you only moved it a little. BUT, you will NEED to adjust the system back to spec before driving.
