Audio & StereoTechnical discussions about factory or aftermarket audio and video systems.
This is a discussion thread titled "2004 4runner door panel removal", within the Audio & Stereo forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
I have a 2004 4runner SR5 4X4 and would like to replace all four door speakers. I looked around and cant seem to find any step by step "how to guides" for how to remove the door panels WITHOUT breaking clips and everything else.
Can someone point me in the right direction??? PLEASE!
I have the instructions they sent me to replace my speakers which I'm in the middle of trying to get it right, now. Of course I bought my speakers through them for my 04.

scrapiron,
Removing door panels is 10% physical and 90% mental anxiety. If you can find all the screws to remove, you can just pull snuggly on the corner of the panel and then the rest just falls off easily. The most common places for screws are:
1.) in the door handle.
2.) center of the armrest.
3.) hidden behind small plastic trim covers.
I totally understand your angst. I recently removed all my panels to replace speakers. The first panel took me about 45 minutes.... the remaining three panels didn't even take 10 minutes total.
One thing to take your time in removing is the door handle casing. Because the handle itself doesn't come out, just the casing. So you gotta pry in there and pop out the casing from the dimpled joint it connects in.
