Question Line Level Out of Stock Unit

Ok so I paid the 18 bucks for the "Garage". There is a lot of cool stuff in there.

Including "HOW TO: How to add pre-amp outputs to the factory head unit in a Tundra. "

The write up is great but I cant get it to work. Ive cut and spiced the "line outs" from the HU to the Amp. I just spliced the common. If it is a line out I should not need the converter. Correct?

I made up four RCA conections using the common(white) and four other wires stated. My amp works fine(Tested with walkman), But i got nothing out of the HU.

To add more fuel to the fire, when I tried to see if I mis-wired anything and rechecked the HU stoped working.

Any help is GREATLY appreciated. With a good question I can get more specific for you.

ONe more: RCA common is on the outside or inside? Please tell me I just didnt answer my first question which created the second question.

Thanks

Ethan

Correct - no converter. When you did the mod did you cut the black, blue, green and yellow? Also did you splice into the white, but leave it in continuity?

Sure did...Well I cant recall the colors exactly but I know I cut the ones stated in the write-up. I left the common "in continuity".

I figure I'm not going to be using the factory amp so why not cut.

Why did you move me to the Garage? I dont think I was reveling any garage secrets. I thought I was pumping it up.

It doesnt really matter if you can help me.

Thanks

I moved this to the "Garage" for 2 reasons
1. I very rarely these days respond to specific electronics questions in the General forums
2. If this discussion gets technical with specifics, I do not want to give away what others have paid for.

If you check any of the wires with a multimeter and vary the volume on the head unit does the voltage change?

What did you mean when you said "when I tried to see if I mis-wired anything and rechecked the HU stoped working"?

If you reconnect the "cut" black, blue, green and yellow wires does the system work as before?

Where the wires you cut on pins 8,9,18 & 19 of the amp pigtail?

What year Tundra?

Hmm...2000 Tundra.

I did cut 8,9,18,19.

I cannot reconect and test. I cut the factory speaker wires out of the amp and routed to the new amp.

When I checked for miss connections(she's a beautiful girl) I had the common(white) on the center of the RCA so I switched them. I hope that was right. When I powerd back up there was still no output and more importantly no lights on the HU.

Now I cant test output voltage untill I get some input.

Were is the fuse for the stereo circuit? Label?

Im serously thinking about stopping by goodguys on the way home for a new HU. I can spend 3bills for my personal christmas present. OH...Maybe not i just bought a truck.

Thanks for your help Glen

Default Argh!!

Well I have no power to either the constant or switched power for the stereo.

Ive checked both the connections to and from the amp.

ACC fuse OK. Am I missing one? Is it possible to fry something without burning the fuse?

Do you have the whole dash re-assembled. The ACC and other power sources are passed through all the connects that plug into the oval piece that goes in front of the radio.
