Default Installed new stereo

I installed a new head unit that has a touch screen for:
XM Radio
Ipod
DVD
Radio
MP3 ect...

Head unit $388
metra wire harness $14
Ai Dash Kit $57.99

I actually prefer the Ai dash kit over the glossy stock look.

Are you hooking up the factory back up camera to your head unit?

If so, I'd love to know how that goes, and how hard it was.

I bought and installed the factory rear view camera, but I'm still waiting on a dash kit that is piano black before swapping out head units.

I'm assuming that there must be prewiring for the camera behind the dash to install with the factory Nav unit, but I just can't confirm this.

Ya, I couldn't wait to get another compartment!

The install was very basic compared to some others. The key is I didn't have the stock nav system.Taking the dash off and getting the head unit out was no problem. Dash kit came with 9 step pictured instructions. : )

Before I purchased my Tundra I asked them to put in the nav system. I was told from my dealer: "They couldn't install the nav system because I had the other one and they would have to replace the whole wire harness behind the dash". That tells me there must be a databus behind the nav system. The point - Your install could be different depending on the system that came with your truck..

The Metra wire harness came with two plugs. There where three plugs that came out of the stock stereo. The left over one went to the AUX on the dash. The new stereo has the ability to feed that plug but I have to design an adapter (RCA). The head unit is manufactured by "Dual".

I have the stock backup cam. My plan is to design a switch that has three settings - Auto (turns on in reverse), On, and Off. I have not found any prewired harness to hook into and I have looked very closely. I will have to tap into the set that goes directly into the small monitor if all else fails.

Later

Excellent! Keep us updated. I'm sure there are many who would like to do a similar setup using an aftermarket headunit and a backup cam. Thanks
