Default Not an audiophile and need audio help

I have two issues that I need help with. I am NOT an audiophile in any respect and really don't intend to become one. I just need some help.

1. I am running a ham radio in the truck and have the speaker jack plugged into the "aux" port. I have horrible alternator whine constantly when the stereo is in the "aux" setting. Even with the ham radio off, its there and loud. It appearently is not getting into the radio itself because people on the other end of transmissions can't hear it. I attached two ferrite beads to the cord and that didn't do anything. What's the next step?

2. There is a bad distortion from voices in the speakers. This is a 2007 with the factory navigation. The actual voice quality is quite good, but there is an audible rattle that seems associated with higher volume and pitch voices. It sounds like its mostly coming from the front center speaker but may be on the right and left. It sounds like humming into a comb with wax paper over it.

Are the factory JBL speakers really cheap or are the just not designed to handle this kind of sound? Can this be cured with new speakers or should I get a dedicated speaker for the ham radio and find a place under the dash for it?

I'd appreciate any guidance on both of these issues.

Just get a speaker for the radio - solve both problems at once

Good suggestion. I installed one today and discovered that there is a nice area behind the "tow/haul" button that is perfect for this. I moved the button over next to the VSC button and the speaker fits perfectly. Problem solved.

Thanks.

NP. Your problem, BTW, was that you were feeding an amplified, balanced output to a low-level, un-balanced input.
