Mine was poor when I bought it and found the antenna was loose. I secured the antenna and the reception is much better. It isn't and probably won't be crystal clear but I play mp3 discs anyway so it doesn't bother me.

is any one else getting lousy reception? do you guys have a suggestion.
I have had 3 new vehicles in as many years. One had the base stereo, reception was terrible= no fix!
The second was a top of the line unit from Rockford Fosgate in a my Frontier NISMO! Reception was terrible= no fix!
My Tundra has the JBL/Nav, reception is terrible also. No fix!
I can remember back in 1984 driving to Spring Break in Daytona Beach in my friends new AMC Spirit with a Pioneer Supertuner 2 in the dash and listening to the same radio station from one side of the state to the other (275mi). Today I will drop that same station before I leave my home county!
It must be all the cell towers, it's the only thing that has changed!
Count me in on poor radio reception....especially compared to my old truck.
Also, the "quality" of this JBL/Nav system is very poor....mines sounds like a cheap MP3 player with 12 speakers. They must be using digital processing to matrix the stereo sound to all the different speaker....as apposed to the normal analog crossover methods. And, yes....I can here the "digital" artifacts and ringing and loss of stereo separation that are associated with compressing music. Seems the whole world is going for that low quality music.

There is probably another explanation for this. More than likely, the radio station itself changed. Stations often change antennas to change their "footprint". They may have wanted a more North-South pattern for some reason.
The station might also have had to reduce its power levels. With more and more stations in the last 20 years, the FCC can manage band allocations and power ratings.
Cell towers really can't have any effect on FM radio reception. Cell phones are in the 800 megahertz range and FM radio is in the 100 range. The waves are so completely different that there is no chance of interferrence.
Incidentally, the trend of getting the short antennas is really a mistake. In order for an antenna to be resonant in the middle of the FM band (100.00), your antenna should be 2.34 feet long. Anything less than that, and you're compromising. You can still get good reception without being resonant, but there is no escaping physics.

I've moved dealers again. Hopefully this is the last one. I'm at Rosner Toyota in Fredericksburg VA. Call 540-898-7900 and ask for Steve Clifford... they will not know who "Cliffy" is.
Yep, the radio reception does suck for the stock head unit. I fixed that by installing a Kenwood DDX8019. Now I have DVD, SAT, IPod, USB port (flash memory), a backup camera and great FM radio reception. I also have the G510 for navigation and SAT/Traffic Info.

There may be other factors, but my old doge gets way better reception than the Toy does. It is an aftermarket stereo, but factory antenna. I get stations crystal clear that the tundra can barely lock on to, even sitting side by side.
