Unhappy help regarding JBL premium AMP?!?!

hello guys, i usually post on newcelica.org, seeing that i have a 2000 model toyota celica GT-S (6spd)...i have the PREMIUM sound system on my car, but toyota did not go with the JBL PREMIUM AMP until '03 and up...

okay, so my problem is this. i recently bought a Toyota Navigation Unit, a stock one, for my car. It has the JBL branded on it and everything, and the seller said that i have to have a JBL PREMIUM AMP to run it...E7001 is the model number of the unit

(here is a picture of it in an 04 tundra) http://www.oemvalue.com/pics/toyota/Toyotatundranav.jpg

anyways. just because i had a premium AMP already (although not JBL), i decided to "plug and play" it just to see what would happen. i took out my stock radio, and plugged the harness in from the amp to the back of the navi unit. EVERYTHING powered up, and everything works, as in, screens, touch feature, motorized face to slide down to insert the CD's, all that.

Except for ONE problem. I CANNOT CONTROL MY SOUND at all...in fact...it appears as if the volume has been CRANKED up ALL the way. even if i turn off the AUDIO from the unit, my car has this extremely annoying "buzz" to it...even to the point where if i accelerate, the buzz increases. And when i actually turn ON any audio, well, it's totally out of control. The music is blasted to the point where it's unbearable.

My question is, is this because of the fact that i don't have a JBL Premium amp and am just using the older toyota premium amp? or does it have to do with some kind of grounding problem or wiring...? Any help would be appreciated. *note, with normal stock basic toyota cd player, and same premium amp, i have no noise problems, but this cd player also doesn't have the JBL tag on it*

Thanks a lot guys

These JBL harnesses are a pain in the you know what. I would guess that the harness you have in your Celica, the non-JBL, is not the same as the JBL harness. This would mean one or more wires are improperly connected to the wrong source wire(s) on the new JBL-headunit.

My solution here is going to be get rid of the amp and use an aftermarket amp. Nothing too fancy. Get a Line-Out Converter (LOC) to hook up the new amp. Search Google for that, they run about $30-50. The LOC will create a set of pre-amp RCA plugs from the speaker wires. Run the NAV wires to the LOC, then the LOC's RCA to the AMP.

I just did the LOC and I had the same problem, no volume control or fader, bass, mid or trebble control. It ended up being the "JBL" amp. Just because it says JBL on it doesn't mean it will work. You need a digital JBL amp. Hope this helps.................

^^so you are saying that i should go out and purchase the actual JBL premium digital amp?

or go for ANY aftermarket AMP out there and it'll work? by using the LOC?

rzbobby, are you saying though, that you tried the LOC technique, mentioned in the first reply, and it still did not work?!

so, tundradrenaline, you're saying i should just ditch my current non-jbl amp and go for some aftermarket ANY amp? how would i know which would qualify as an amp that would be suitable....?

and RZbobby, are you saying that you DID try the LOC feature that was mentioned in the first reply and it DID NOT work?!?! so you yourself had to go out and get the actual Premium amp as well?
