Default Tundra '01 SR5 amp?

Did the '01 SR5 trim level come with an amp? Or what is the easiest way to check if it was an installed option? Nothing under seats or in the rear under seat storage. Thanks.

Some '01s came with an amp. It's located just below the headunit behind the HVAC controls. IIRC if the truck has tweeters on the front door panels it has an amplifier. I don't know anything about the '03s

Ok, my 03 has the door tweeters and the amp behind the HVAC controls.

Yes, I do have the door tweeters so I assume I have one as well.
I was really looking for a way to upgrade the system without starting all over with new HU and speakers. I guess the factory amp still does not have much power or the oem speakers are not too great. I've installed aftermarket HU that made a world of difference on a stock system in other cars just because they had more watts to drive the speakers. Not sure which way to go now. Has anybody installed just a HU and seen better performance? Recommendations for a unit $150 - $200?

So how much power should I be looking for in a headunit?

Thumbs up Re: Tundra '01 SR5 amp?

I have had nothing but problems searching for dash kits and wiring harnesses. I also have 01 Tundra w/amp and have searched all over for the right harness and install kit for aftermarket radio. I will check around local car audio stores to see if they have the right stuff then I will post the part #s.

Try Car Audio Video - Car Subwoofers - Car Amplifiers and Speakers-- you can put in your vehicle and they provide the install and wiring kit for free. They guarentee the lowest prices. I have checked around and can find none cheaper. I just need to decide on what HU I want--I know I want a 7" touchscreen but there are too many choices.
Hope this helps
