This is a discussion thread titled "My System Install is COMPLETE! 56K Beware", within the Audio & Stereo forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
Glad you mentioned it! I was wondering what the hell that smell was, LOL! I thought maybe it was the clearcoat we used on the speaker adapters. How did it take to dissipate?

ThirdHouseman,
How did the sound deading come out did it help on NVH ? Did you do the install yourself and how long on the sound deading install ? From the looks on your picture you ripped everything out the correct way on your crewmax..
Thanks

We installed everything ourselves, as shown in the pictures. It took several hours with three of us doing it, especially since I was being picky on seams lining up and not covering ANY bolts except those on the rear wall.
It's like a completely different truck. I have no more exhaust drone, and you can barely hear the music outside when turned up to a considerably high level. It was well worth the money. I only wish I had added a layer of dampening foam on top of the floor, but I don't know how much it would have helped.

To be honest, the smell never really "went away". Some days not so bad but ona day when the sun was kicking you could still smell it a lot. I had that Tacoma for 9 months until I traded it for a Porsche. I put the system in the truck in Feb, traded it in Sept, could still smell it in Sept. In fact the Porsche dealer asked me WTF that smell was.
It seemed less potent today, but maybe I am just getting used to it. What kind did you use?
My deadener smell went away after about 2 weeks. I admit it's pretty damn terrible that first few days. But I get worse smells from deisel trucks thru the vents.

Oops... what did I do to get rid of the smell? nothing. I think the smell is from the metal side fo the edead. The asphault side is wrapped in that plastic right? But it also comes rolled up, so maybe it's just residue on the metal side, and the edges of the asphault. Uhhh, opinions, who knows...
I did speak with Rick at RAAMaudio about his RAAMmatt deadener, he said the butyl vs asphault/butyl is no comparison. His argument was pretty convincing. I may be cutting section of edead and overlaying the entire cab with raammatt in the near future. Can I borrow $50?

Try looking at your local Home Depot or the grocery store for a product called Ozium. It is a hospital grade smell killer.
As for the time it takes? The gatorskin/dynamat extreme install on the 4Runner 6 years ago still smells a little when things start to heat up, just not as bad.
Try cracking the rear glass window at night if you can and it will help with the built up fumes from the night.
Yeah the smell really never goes away especially in hot climates like we have here in Georgia. Just mask it with something like fabreeze or the stuff mentioned.
