Default Replace Head Unit only in 2006 DC with JBL

Anyone know if I can do this install:

This head unit

with

This adapter

and keep my stock speakers, wiring and amp.

If I plug all my auto information into crutchfield.com (2006 DC with JBL) I get the solution I mention above. I wonder if anyone is using the adapter or anything similar. I would really like to replace the HU with something more modern and iPod friendly. I'm just not ready to replace the entire system (even though I know it is not all that great) with 1-2K of stuff.

Thanks

Chris

That Scosche interface on Crutchfield's site is $149!!!! There has to be another way to accomplish it. I did a search for "JBL bypass" and came up with a lot of stuff. You might want to search it too and read to see if there is another way.

Crutchfield gives you 1/2 off the adapter for buying the HU through them which is rather tempting.

That adapter is the best way to go unless you want to rip out the factory amp and rewire.

Does that adapter retain the steering wheel controls?

I don't think it does interface with the steering wheel controls. And that is a tough one for me because I find myself using these quite a lot.
