Wow! So after you had already installed the Dynamat and reassembled everything, you tore it apart again to put in this Ensolite? LOL! And people say I'm hardcore! I tip my hat to you sir!

I'll have to do the same

Mine is actually vibrating the lenses of the map lights. I have to somehow remove them and dampen inside the bulb area...without it catching on fire

There is actually a ton of room behind the door panel. For some reason Boston makes huge crossovers and I've always had a hard time finding places for them. That big piece of foam used to have that giant plastic honeycomb piece attached to it. I tore that off when I had Dynamated the doors so the panel would fit back on. With that gone you'll have plenty of room.

Thank you sir. Much appreciated, but this is all your fault. If you hadnt started your post I probably would have never gotten this carried away, lol.

The sad part is I have to tear it down one more time to pull all the new wires.... bout a half a days work.

Thanks man, I appreciate that. Its actually extremely quiet, probably more so than a Lexus, lol. Definitely quieter than my wifes Acura. I love it, I feel like a little kid who just got his license, I'll look for any excuse to drive the truck somewhere now.

does it really make that much difference? My wifes lexus is so quiet... truck isn't too bad I just want to know that it is worth the material cost before taking the jump

Like I mentioned before, it was a major difference. I thought the truck was decently quiet without deadening, but after I did the Dynamat I was blown away at the immediate change in unwanted outside noise. Once the Ensolite was finished it was no contest, its a different truck now.

Ok, I am very impressed. Always wanted to do this but never did, mainly because I was under the impression that it would be extremely expensive to buy all the material, and also because I assumed that all the various bolts, connectors, wires, etc. wouldn't fit back together well with a layer of sound dampening material. Can you give a ballpark cost on your total materials including adhesive and everthing? And total hours spent on the job? Might help me decide whether or not to jump in. I don't plan on a new stereo but I am in the truck a lot on the highway and would really benefit from a quiet ride.

I would say I have roughly $400 invested in the sound dampening. That includes both the Dynamat and the Ensolite. It only took one can of 3M 77 to do the Ensolite, and I had that lying around already. The Ensolite was very affordable. If you need links to where I got everything please let me know. All the Dynamat was bought off ebay for dirt cheap.

Dont even sweat the tear out, this truck is so easy to take apart and put back together. I took the seats out first, then the center console, then the side pillar covers, then finally the carpet lifts right out in 2 large sections. I put every bolt in a labeled zip-lock baggie for its particular section. This is the second time I've had the truck torn apart like this, so the tear out was very easy this time. I'd say about 40-45 minutes to gut it, then about a good 2 days work to get it all done. Granted, thats all by myself and taking my sweet time to make sure it was done right and looked professional. Two people could probably do this in a day. Took about another 45 minutes to put it all back together. I didnt have one single problem with things not fitting back correctly. The door panels slid right back on and the floor wasnt even an issue because of the excess space under the carpet.

If you drive alot then I say go for it. My radio volume has been literally cut in half. I used to have to listen to the radio at about 20-25 on the highway. Now I'm down to around 8-10 and its plenty loud and very clear. I listen to alot of talk radio and pod-casts while driving so this project has help out a ton with vocals.

Mark

Default Re: Sound Deadening: Dynamat/Ensolite project complete

ouch! $400.... I did just add dynamat to a sub enclosure under my rear seat and I must say it sounds way better! Much tighter bass. So I am convinced the stuff works.... just not enough of a stereo buff to spend $400 on the entire cab... as for road noise I am running MTs and always have the windows down (Florida) so probably not a wise investment of money and time for me. Kudos on your work thoough.... very professional. Moulding that stuff is so easy I may do a few other spots.
