Audio & StereoTechnical discussions about factory or aftermarket audio and video systems.
This is a discussion thread titled "New Radio using factory Aux input.", within the Audio & Stereo forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
I finally broke down and spent the money, not alot mind you, and put in a new radio and speakers in my truck. I installed a Pioneer Premier DEH-P600UB with a bluetooth adapter. I used the Scosche adapter kit to mount it and mounted the Bluetooth Mic in the factory location. The spaekers I used Pioneer 3-Way 6x9's in the front and pioneer 6 1/2's in the back. To install the speakers I used the factory speakers to make the adapters. The fun part of my project was making an adapter to allow me to use my factory front Aux input, since my radios aux input is in the back of the radio. It didn't take long but it was fun and my sound system sounds so much better. Didn't take any pics yet but I'll take some and post them soon.

Congrats! New stereo makes all the difference. I love putting the rear window down a few inches and cranking up the sub.

Can you post some more info on how you built the adapter? I'm about to order a new deck and I can't live without the aux. input.

Sorry it took me so lond to get back to you guys on how to do this but here is how I did it. I don't have any pictures and I lost my notes on the wire colors (that's why you need a meter)
You'll need:
A digital Multi-meter(One that reads resistance)
Wire Strippers/Crimpers
3 Wire Splices
1 Headphone Jack to RCA Plog Audio Adapter
Take your adapter and cut the RCA plugs off and Strip back the wiring. You'll want to strip back enough because the shields need to be twisted together. Also strip the middle wires back to. (These wires are small so be careful)
After this you will have three wires basically, one for right one for left and a Common (your shields twisted together).
From here on out you will need your dash apart and radio removed. If you already have a after market radio installed you will have noticed that there is a plug that does not go anywhere. This is the one that goes to your Aux Port.
Plug the cable into your Aux port(make sure the Aux port is connected on you Air Control Panel) Now you'll have to read each wire from your modified cable to the plug that plugged into the old radio. Make of note of which wire the ring to.
Once you do that unplug your cable from the Aux Input and splice the adapter wires into the coresponding wires that you rang out earlier.
After that plug the headphone jack into the back of your radio and you have use of your Factory Aux input. If you need any help please feel free to drop me a line and I'll get back as soon as I can.
Thanks for the input Beerguy. I am about to have my local install shop put my Pioneer DEH-P5800mp in my truck. They say I should have no problem using the Factory Aux input for my ipod, but it sounds like it's a little more involved than "plug and play".
I guess your mp3 output doesn't just synch-up to the Factory Aux input?
