Audio & StereoTechnical discussions about factory or aftermarket audio and video systems.
This is a discussion thread titled "JVC KW-AVX810 Install", within the Audio & Stereo forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
Well decided to install my new Hu the new JVC KW-AVX810, I was gonna wait till the Sirius interface was available (its on backorder) and i got my rear view camera but went ahead and put it for now will have to yank it out again for the other goodies but i figured i would get the bulk of the work done now. I left wire leads for the add ons so they will be able to hook when they come.
Install went very smooth, pulled out my old Clarion HU and removed all the old HU wiring. Oh first thing was to disconnect battery and capacitor from system before I started. I soldered up a new metra harness just using the one 10 pin connector all i needed on there was the ground, 12v switched, 12v constant and illumination. Remote turn on from HU to amps, I also extended the reverse wire for the future camera install but did not hook it up yet. The unit has a detach face and a motion sensor that turns on the button lights or certian screen menus when you put you hand near it, very cool.
I chose to override the e-brake for DVD playback. To be honest I think its crazy to have to park and hit the e-brake if you are gonna watch a movie, if that was the case i would just watch it at home! Its really not so I can watch a movie but its in a great spot on the Tundra for passengers especially on trips.
I pod control works great. I ran the USB into the center console. So whatever i hook up to it is hidden and tidy.
Tried to take some pics but cammera battery was dead, will get some later. Thanks to everyone who helped me out with some of the questions I had.
Hey does anyone have any imput on how you like HD radio? I was looking and where i live there are a good # of HD radio channels.

Love the JVC but no Nav.I see you have the Focals 165,so do I.How do they sound with the Alpine Amp. and why didn't you go rear fill with Focals or did you feel it would be over kill?

Thanks man it is nice. I got a Garmin Street Pilot 580c that takes care of the nav and bluetooth for me, I went that route cause i can move the nav to my other vehicle, which is the one I really need it in.
I like the Focals a lot and think i will stick with them now, they sound great with the Alpine. I guess i would have used them in the rear also, but had some other Cliff Designs speakers I wanted to try, they were cheaper and do a great job in the back, filling in. I mounted the tweeters up in the rear door sail panels and like how the rear sounds, its almost like surround sound LOL. The rear passengers rock out hard in my rig with components back there and the sub under the seat.
Here are some pics i took of the JVC installed.

Gee, that looks just like mine. You'll have a couple more sources to touch once you add bluetooth and Sirius. Good job! I like the orange and the red at night but tend to use green or black during the day. I had the Viper 5900 alarm installed Friday so I leave my screen in. It is nice to be able to detach it when you need to though. I also enjoy being able to play my DVD concerts while driving. Also have switch to activate rear camera while in drive as well.

Yeah I cant wait till the Sirus tunner interface gets back in stock, not sure if I will go with bluetooth or HD radio? My Street pilot has Bluetooth already, not sure which way I will go there.
The unit has 3, 5V pre outs.
About the alarm, Im always leary about adding aftermarket stuff like that. Are those units good and what do they do different than the stock system?
Thanks for the compliments guys.

The Viper 5900 can start your truck from up to a mile away and confirm on the LCD controller that it did start. All alarms and settings are confirmed on your LCD controller. I have contacts on the tonneau cover, tailgate, all doors and windows and hood. Mine was installed with two LCD controllers for $625. I would take the face plate off if I ever went to the city but out here in my rural area. The dogs let me know if something is even remotely close to my property and the truck is in the garage which is protected by the house security system. It's a shame in this day and age what we have to go through to protect what we own against thieves. JVC recommends not constantly removing the face plate. I am impressed with the Viper and would recommend it.

If your street pilot mutes the stereo then I would stay with that. I listen to music constantly and would never know ny phone was receiving a call without the JVC head screen muting the system. There are alot of calling features on the unit and unlike the OEM nav you can use any of them while you are driving.

I understand RisingSun reason for not taking his faceplate off now but I don't understand why would Jvc make a detachable face and then tell you to not use it frequently. It sounds like they didn't make the face to be durable and lets face it some of us stay in undesirable area's where you need to take it off as soon as you park. What do they do?If you get a security system make sure they are certified to install. My install and alarm cost $650.00 and thats with 1 transponder.RisingSun got a very good deal. There is a Lifetime warranty, thats parts and labor.I've had it for a month and no problems and I love it.I was told after my install by an installer to have a proximity sensor installed to complete the security. It doesn't come with the basic install. If you can call it basic!

Yeah I would think a proximity sensor would make it worth doing, keep people away who may want to damage the truck more than anything.
Did not see anywhere in the JVC owners manual that says not to remove the faceplate frequently???? I just looked at it, but may have missed it. They do supply some screws so you can fix it on there so it will not come off though, not sure why someone would want that? Well maybe if you are somewhere with the windows open with music playing like a car show or something like that, so some jerk does not grab it when your not looking I guess.

Yeah,I'm not sure why one would screw their faceplate down.I have the 5345 Eclipse unit and I wish I could take my face off.Back in the nineties I had a cheap detactable face unit and I didn't take the face off nor did I cut my alarm on.Well guess what......they got me.My alarm goes on now even if I get out the car to check the tires.

The book is at my office so I will post the page tomorrow on detaching the faceplate. It is more directed to keeping the contacts clean than harming the faceplate.
I do have the prox. sensor as well as the glass break sensor and the digital tilt sensor to prevent raising the truck to remove a wheel. Basically I got the extra LCD, and these three sensors for cost as part of a package deal for having work done to my wifes Jeep the week before.
The guy who owns the install shop used to be my neighbor so some things were done at cost as I have steered alot of work his way with some of my friends. Yes I agree if you get the 5900 then definately get the prox sensor. It takes a little tweaking to get it to the sensivity you want.

Can you tweak the proximity sensor yourself or do you have to bring it back to them? Have you have any false alarms? I've had one when there was a thunderstorm, thats it
