Looks like a great install. I am thinking about changing out my speakers pretty soon but haven't really done it before. I already changed the head unit to a pioneer D3 with ipod and bluetooth but the stock speakers definitely don't do it justice.
bbolton I was wondering where you bought most of your equipment and if you don't mind a rough estimate on how much this system cost minus the head unit?
Thanks

Thanks for the compliment. DEFINITELY upgraded your stock speakers as a bare minimum, and a sub would the icing on the cake. I got most of my equipment online, minus the sub and sub box, which I got from a local stereo shop. Since I got everything from so many different places, it's hard to estimate a cost. But if I had to guess, everything besides the HU probably ran me around a thousand, give or take.
Oops, I forgot to use spell check and typed a little to fast for Definitely. Thanks for the info. I will probably buy my speakers in stages so my wife doesn't get mad at me, spending so much on my system.
Did you disconnect your dash speakers or replace them?

Haha, sorry for the confusion..I wasn't calling you out for misspelling definitely, I was just emphasizing that you should definitely replace the OEM speakers, you'll be happy that you did. Since I installed some pretty bright and powerful tweeters in the sails, I just disconnected the dash speakers and left them there so I can just reconnect them if I trade in the truck. I understand about spacing it out, don't want to upset the misses. Whether you start with a sub or a set of components, you'll notice a huge difference right away.
The install looks great. i am thinking about doing this with my 05 crew max, just not sure which deck to go with. looking at many the pioneer z2. this is the first time i saw the boyo cam and am thinking about going with that as well. cheaper and much easier to install rather than trying to wire in the oem cam to the aftermarket hu. one question i have is, which dash kit do you have. it looks like it matches the glossy finish perfectly, which i know alot of them dont. i am trying to find the best fit and finish and that one looks great. thanks for the help

Not to impose on his post, but if youre looking for fit and finish, the Metra 99-8220HG is the dash kit to get. I have both the Metra and the Scosche and the Scosche is a terrible fit. There is a huge gap on the bottom where it meets the A/C control panel. The Metra fits tight and looks like its OEM. I found mine on ebay for about $40.
thanks for the info on the dash kit jumbo jet. i was looking at the metra and heard it was a good quality fit. one other question that i have for anyone on here for the boyo camera. i was on there website looking a thte liscence plate cams and they have so many different models. my question is, which one is the best? hehe i geuss which one would give the best picture and work the best all around? thanks for the help

Pretty sure all the license plate kits all use the same basic camera.

I think you're right. I'm pretty sure I have the VLT300. I'm not sure what the difference is between the 300 and 350, but I know some of the model variations denote the different finishes: gloss black vs. chrome.

No imposition at all. I can't speak for the Metra since I've never seen one installed in person, but it seems like Jumbo would know best since he has both. I've heard mixed reviews about the Scosche, but personally I was able to get mine flush with everything with no gaps, but is sounds like the Metra might be a safer bet.
Hey BBolton; great job on the install - the pics are a great reference for those of us who haven't upgraded their systems yet. I have a reverse install question for you - once the Metra kit is installed in the dash, how easy is it to remove in case you want to swap/upgrade the head unit again??

Thanks for the compliment. I'm not sure about the Metra since I have the Scosche and haven't attempted to remove it since the install, but I'm pretty sure the kits are similar and I don't think mine would be too hard. The kit uses the same factory screws that held the OEM radio in place, so all you need to do is remove the AC controls to expose them (just like with the install). The hardest part I would imagine would be freeing the clips on the 4 corners without breaking them. With a little patience I'm sure it would be done. But like I said, I've never tried so others feel free to chime in.

Very easy to pull again, I can have my HU out in about 5 mins. or less. I have done it a few times though. I have the Schose kit though but would think either is about the same to put in or take out.

I think some are also a plastic or metal frame and one does not have a frame, just the cam pod.
I have the same one you have, it is a metal frame in black.

Same exact thing with the Metra, 4 factory bolts and a few clips are all that hold it in. It all comes out in a few minutes.
