Audio & StereoTechnical discussions about factory or aftermarket audio and video systems.
This is a discussion thread titled "2008 Scion radio in 2005 Tacoma?", within the Audio & Stereo forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
i want a different look & more functionality for my truck in the audio department.
i've done a search...but, not sure if the 2008 Scion radios will fit in the new gen Tacomas.
i'm tired of the 'dusty' look on the display in the Tacoma and the lack of direct ipod interfacing. Scion radios seem to meet the needs. but, i want the color to match also (red, not pea green).
Yes, definetly need to watch this one. I was asking the same question a year ago on another forum.

I went from an access cab with 6-disk to a D-Cab with a regular 1 disk and the sound system is weak in the new truck. Not sure if its the head unit or the speakers, but I am def interested to see how this turns out!
sorry for the cell phone pics. This is from my 2005 Scion xB. Not sure what the taco unit looks like in the back, maybe someone else can clarify if the plugs look similar.
thanks for the replies and for the pics of the 2005 Scion unit.
i'm still waiting on the 2008 Scion radio to arrive.
i hope to dive into the project next week and have a new look posted soon.
That headunit is a T1808, which has the capability to interface with the iPods.
The ipod functions can be displayed and selected from the headunit, along with charging the ipod.
The easiest way to connect this to the ipod is with a SC12235 cable, which is available on ebay, or from rctech@comcast,net
They also offer a seperate AUX cable for this model headunit that allows you to connect another audio source to it.
there is no update currently. purchased item on ebay and it was never delivered. note: pay attention to ebay feedback in detail. turns out that this very same item from the same seller was also a fouled transaction in the past. i did receive a full refund via PayPal. always use PayPal for protection. i have received refunds twice thru PayPal. it's fast and safe.
so...i am left with no radio to attempt an install with. i am still actively searching for a marriage of Tacoma and Scion radio. i'll post updates when available. hopefully i can find a good faith seller.

Wow that sucks man at-least you where able to get your money back. I think I am going to get a head unit from crutchfield some of the new ones have USB connections right on the front of the head unit. A couple that I looked at where around 130-150 shipped.
palomino,
You might try subscribing to one of the Scion forums, and watching their For Sale section. That is how I picked up my T1806 head unit.
In the mean time, you need to learn how to open up your dash. Do so, pull the head-unit out, and check the plugs. I suspect they are the same as the Scion; but it does not hurt to make sure, before buying something new, and finding out it won't connect.
If the plugs are the same, order the double-DIN and ipod cable too. Everything will be ready for the stereo, when it becomes available.
