Thanks for the awsome review. I know this is a forum on the Toyota Tundra, but I looking into getting the 2009 Corolla and was wondering if anyone has installed the DNX8120 in the Corolla and if it is possible.

The GPS antenna is on the passenger side in the corner of the dash. I put it there for ease of wiring and so its somewhat out of view and i dont have it in the middle of the dash where everyone can see it all the time.

The mic is underneath the dash above and to the left of the steering wheel. I will be moving this into the pillar above the handle so that its pointing straight at me and farther away from the speaker.

The reason I bought mine is the two USB inputs, one for ipod, one for the USB panel mount I will be installing in place of the Aux input. Here is a link to the panel mount if anyone is interested: USB Mount.

Anyway, I have a lot of TV shows converted to .avi files and the 8120 is Divx certified, so I can load up the files on a USB stick and enjoy, yet still have the ipod connected, too.

Other reasons include Bluetooth, 5V outputs, etc. But it was the two USBs that sold it for me...

Thanks for the review, I can't wait to install mine.
Crazed, I've put avi and mpg files on a USB thumb drive and the unit does not see them. The manual says

About Video files
• Acceptable video files
MPEG1, MPEG2, DivX
• Extensions
mpg, mpeg, m1v, m2v, divx, div, avi
• Acceptable media
CD-R/RW/ROM, DVD±R/RW, VCD,

I don't think you can play divx or any other video files from USB other than the ipod. I did read on some other forum about the Kenwood 5120 (I think) that said they would not play media out of the box until after a firmware update. I don't know if there is one available for the 8120 yet but mine did not play media from USB.

Here is something I found real quick.

Anyone else get video files to work on the 8120 using USB?

Did anyone notice that the DNX8120 does not remember what song/playlist your ipod was on when you turn it off and back on again? I just had my DNX8120 installed yesterday and noticed this right off the bat. It is very annoying. I asked my installer about the firmware and they assured me it was up to date and there was a sticker on the box stating such. I can't imagine they designed it that way on purpose. Maybe there is a setting or a fix of some sort. I sure hope so or I might have to abandon ship.

I'm not sure about the ipod but the USB drive always picks up where it left off.

Have you checked the ipod?

Mine always resumes what it was doing before.

I haven't installed, yet. But this is very good to know. Thanks for the info. I will play around when I get a chance to install it. I guess I will have to convert specifically when I know I will be using it in the truck.

Since its all one unit it does it automatically. The brown mute wire is not needed.

ok. Thanks. I do have another question. The DNX8120 offers USB inputs and RCA audio inputs. I want to relocate these to a panel that I have in the dash. I know I could just run them under or though the dash some kind of way, but i want to try to keep it clean. So here is my question does anyone know where I could pick up a usb connector and 1/8 audio jack that would mount in the dash. Kinda like some of the newer cars today have them built in.

This is what I picked up for the USB...

I'm encouraged to hear you aren't having the issue with the unit losing the last song. However, I'm still having the issue where it loses the lasts song on the ipod when turned off and back on again. It plays the first song on the ipod every time I turn the unit on. Very annoying.

I've emailed tech support and after 3 days of waiting on a reply they asked me what model cable I was using. I didn't know there were more than one. I'm using the KCAIP300V. I just called tech support and the first guy I talked to about it told me it is supposed to work that way. In other words, it wasn't designed to store the last song it played on the ipod. I asked to speak to a supervisor and that person agreed with the first guy but took my information and will escilate it to their engineers and they will get back with him in 2 to 5 business days, argh! My unit has a sticker on the box that says UPGRADE CERTIFIED which indicates the firmware should be up to date. It sounds like there is a fix where it is a new cable or a firmware update. That would be good news because this is driving me crazy! I'm not impressed with Kenwood's tech support.

I have noticed something else with the unit. I noticed a humming noise when the navigation maps goes from day to night mode. The night mode has a hum that the day mode doesn't.

I also wished they would add a way to ramdomize the videos. I have over 700 music videos and I would like to play them in ramdom order rather than 1 artists at a time. Some artists in my collection only have 1 video so I'd have to select a new video every 5 minutes which is not desirable.

I wasn't aware of the unit playing all content including pod casts. I typically use play lists to play the music so that hasn't been an issue for me but I can see that it would be annoying.
