Audio & StereoTechnical discussions about factory or aftermarket audio and video systems.
This is a discussion thread titled "Kenwood DNX8120 Review", within the Audio & Stereo forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
I have a 60 gig ipod classic and video works for me, but it didn't right away. I wish I had a better tutorial, but I got frustrated because I could only hear audio. So I started pressing all over the screen and when I touched the left side of the screen -- don't remember where, the video appeared.
I am on a business trip, but I will try to do a better job of trying to convey what I did when I get back. I will also take photos of the Metra installed, too.
so this is the latest gen ipod classic and it works on the 8120 for video? If so...awesome!
AFAIK all ipod classics are 6th gen and the latest as before this they were just ipods.
Also for the video to work you need to touch the snapshot of the video in the left corner of the display where the album art would normally be if you were playing just audio.
This is how you bring up the video screen display.
I want to hook up sirius sat radio to my kenwood dnx-8120. I bought the SCC1 Sirius universal connect tuner & the kenwood interface connect cable. Do I need anything else?

Can you post some pics of the head unit installed with the metra kit? I've got the scoshe and metra coming but I'f like to get an idea what the metra looks like with the 8120...I've seen it with the scoshe...
thanks
Did anyone ever post any pics of the Metra Kit in the new Tundra? I too would like to see this glossy kit to see how it looks. Would not mind seeing the Schoshe also. Is there a reason some here have chosen Metra over Schosce? Does it look better, or is it just more available?
Finally, I could not find the Metra Kit via google either. Where are people getting them from?
I was supposed to put some pictures of mine up, but I totally forgot until you mentioned this. I'll put some up tomorrow for you unless someone beats me to it.
I have the Scosche kit and the Metra, and the Metra is alot nicer. The Scosche kit doesnt fit right and the bottom has a big gap where it meets the A/C contorls. It wouldnt bother some, but I thought it looked like crap so I bought the Metra. The Metra fit and finish is perfect and the gloss is a spot on match. I found mine on ebay for about $30. Its Metra 99-8220 HG (high gloss). Google that and a few come up.
I am about to do this upgrade. Can someone confirm that via steering wheel up and down channel selection buttons that you can move around the presets on the Kenwood? I remember seeing somewhere on this forum a report that these controls moved the seek up and down, but did not operate the preset up and down. I am wondering if that user who reported this was just not yet real acquainted with the system, or if this is a real issue you have to "settle" for. I have a slightly older double din Kenwood 70xx series that integrated with steering wheel controls and when you pushed channel up and down on the steering wheel it would send the kenwood unit up or down in either seek or preset mode, depending on what mode you had left the head unit up and down hard buttons in most recently. Hence, it was not an issue with steering wheel integration, but just what mode you had the head unit in. Is this the same for the 8120 integrated to steering wheel, or, is there just NO ability to do preset up and down from steering wheel?
Jumbo Jet, I am looking forward to those pictures also......

Dave,
I have my 8120 hooked up to the steering wheel controls with a PAC SWI-JACK. It works perfect once I got the set up sequence right. It took me a few times to figure out what I was doing wrong, but now it works great. When I was programming it, I was setting #5 as my "track up", which should have been "seek up". I got it right by skipping #5 and using #6 and #7 as "track up and track down".
I dont listen to cd's, but on my normal pre-set stations for Sirius and regular radio, "track up" and "track down" go thru my pre-sets one by one in which ever direction I pushed. For my ipod, those same buttons go forward or backward thru the songs in that playlist.
I didnt program button #3 (mute) or button #5 (seek up), because they dont apply to our steering wheels, but everything else works fine, ie: volume up/down, source, track up/down.
Sorry about the delay on the pics, I had to build some speaker mounts for someone today. I'll do them tomorrow..... promise.
Hi- I've been lurking here for a while. My DH installed the DNX 8120 in my Rav4 today (my mother's day present). Still playing around & getting used to it but I love it so far. Bluetooth works flawlessly, Sirius up and running perfectly, Nav is spot on. We manged to grab it while it was listed on 6ave.com for $1066.00 last week. Question, very minor but it's driving me crazy. The little red upside triangle... is it supposed to be flashing when the vehicle is off? I couldn't find it anywhere in the manual. TIA

Yeah, mine flashes too. I think its a theft deterrent light.
