How do you like your p3s? They make a 12" P3 in a pre-made enclosure that I installed in an '07 the other day (fit perfectly) but it didnt seem to hit as low as I was expecting out of a 12" p3. Required 400 watts RMS and it was using 300 so it may have just been that box. Do your 10s give you a very good low end??
At first glance I thought you wanted to know how I liked my PS3. I was wondering how you knew I had one. lol
I love em! I have 600w powering the two of them from the Alpine M650, so each one gets 300w, which is what Rockford recommended. They hit hard and tight, and once the gains were set correctly you can feel the bass in your chest when its cranked up. The box came out good and I think is a great match for the subs. On many songs, the bass is so tight it feels like there is a kick drum in the back seat. The bass is very accurate. I wanna build another box out of fiberglass, but its just for the fun of doing another audio project...... other than that the box thats in there sounds great.
I remember seeing a post a while back that had the deminsions of someones home-fabricated box. Was that the draft you used or did you create your own? If you did your own, you wouldn't still have the dimensions would you? About to do my own in two weeks so I wanted to get as much prep as possible done. Thanks

Yeah, that was the draft that I came up with for my own box. Others have used it and tweaked it to accommodate their own subs, but the original specs are for my two Rockford's.
I appreciate the help! Mine should be finished in about three weeks. I'm stationed 1,000 miles from my toolbox so it is killing me not being able to tear apart my brand new truck, not to mention reading all the great work you guys are doing on y'alls. This site my have been the worst thing I could have found, in a good way of course.
I'm not sure if yours is the same as mine, but on the 08 there is a seat belt assembly that must be taken account for. What i have to do on mine is make the back of the box left side 12 inches and the right side (closest to the center of the truck) 9.5 inches. This leaves the center recessed part 7.5 inches wide for both the belt female recievers and the assembly attached to the back wall.
In your drawing the C's would just be 12" and 9.5" and the E would be 8.5" if you are using 1/2" MDF. Don't know if this will help anybody else but just something i noticed.
Yea, I figured that could probably be done. Isn't noticable at all and doesn't serve much of a purpose. I was noticing the Rockfords are only rated down to 47 Hz on their slim lines. I wonder if the Pioneers go any lower. The claim freqency response down to 20 Hz but I doubt that is very accurate. Anybody try the Pioneers. If not, when I get home next month i'll try both and post some results
Hey Jumbo. I've been reading through your replies in various posts regarding the 8120. I have a couple more questions for you.
1. You recommended the Metra and stated it fits great. I also read in a post somewhere that you were having an issue with it fitting right. Did you get it to fit right with a mod? (You mentioned a 'mod post' that you were looking for.)
2. Are you running backup camera to your unit?
I'm doing some leg work before my new deck comes in. Different model, but since it's the same brand & size it should be fine. Thanks!
lol, I thought this thread was long dead..... thats for reviving it.
Yeah, I personally feel the Metra is far more superior than the Scosche kit, both of my Scosches look and fit like crap. I think I do remember when I was asking about the Metra not fitting tight in the corner. It turned out that I had a clump of wires behind the head unit in that corner so it wouldnt push in all the way. I took the Kenwood out and cleaned up my mess behind it and then everything went back in perfect. It ended up being my sloppiness that was causing my problem.
I plan on hooking up my rear cam to the Kenwood. I'm switching out both of my amps and adding a different set of components in the next month, so I'll do the back up cam while things are torn apart.
Question what you doing with those old amps? and could you put 1 of those V series amps in the center Console between the front seats? Seems like if they fit right you could run them through there without my problem I guess ventilation might a issue

HAHA! No problem. I was reading through so many past threads about running a stock backup camera with an aftermarket deck and I happened to come across your 'issue' w/the Metra kit. Glad to hear it wasn't really a problem. You have me sold again.

Im going to sell them to help cushion the cost of the new ones I just got. The 4 channel is an Alpine F-550 90w x 4. The mono amp is an Alpine M600 600w x 1. They are both in absolute perfect condition...... 10 out of 10. I have the boxes and manuals for both. If you might be interested let me know, Lakeland is a bit of a drive but we could meet up half way somewhere.
Ventilation might become an issue mounting them inside the middle console. Have you considered making an amp rack for the back wall?
