Default Best deal on Focal Components 6.5"

I am looking to purchase at least 1 set (possible 2) of focal components. Tweeter is offering a buy 1 set get your second set half off on the Access series until the end of the month (269.99 a set) putting the total at 430 after tax for 2 sets of 6.5" components. I would also consider doing only coaxial speakers out back since they are only fill but the components are only 35 dollars more with the half off deal and sound WAY better IMO (heard them in person). If anyone has some other suggestions or ideas where to get a great deal, let me know. Thanks! Also, I will need some help to get the best brackets to use for the install. I think I have seen them on ebay but have heard of fit issues... what about the ones at crutchfield?

Are you set on the focals? I ask this because I had the Infinity Kappa Perfects 6.1 in my truck prior to installing the Focal 165K2Ps and I think for what your budget might be, the infinity components might be a good deal. Currently I have Focal 165cv1's in the rear and feel that the sound from them is more muddled that the beautiful sound being emitted from the 165k2ps.

Back to the infinity's. I think they sounded really good for what they cost. Around 270 if i remember correctly.

For your bracket/adapter, I would make one out of mdf. The plastic ones will prolly resonate like crazy.

Just don't go ordering Focal's online. I have heard bad things about those.

I just checked the Infinity perfects on hookedontronics.com. They are 208 a pair. Something to think about.

I ordered two different sets of 165kxx online, and both were perfect. I paid $500 for my k2ps upgraded version.

The MDF spacers fit fine. Just seal them and they're good to go...I am very picky to say the least.

I need a set of JBL tweeter pods next so I can move them out of the dash!

Are you pretty happy with the sound of the K2P's? I have the Boston Pro 60's right now but the sound is kind of sterile. The get very loud, but they seem to be missing something in the mids. How much power are you giving them? I'll be giving them 90w each if I get them. I've heard them in person at a speaker store and they sounded amazing, but I havent heard them in a car yet.

Where did you find them for that price? And whats the difference in the upgraded vs. the regular?

Thanks.

I am giving the k2ps 150 watts per channel through a JL 450/4. They have tickle your feet low range and play loud and proud through all frequencies. I listen to all kinds of music and they sound great on all of them.

So is the idea that the kappa perfects will sound better than the entry level (Access) Focals? I heard the Focal's (165A1's) and they sound great. I have had nothing but infinity's in my last 3 cars and they have treated me quite well but wanted the best for my first new rig ever! Anyone else have any input?

I have only had kappas in the past, and on this truck I tried the kappa PERFECTS. The perfects had the midbass that was lacking in the regular kappas. They sounded really good for the price. I would saythat the infinity perfect components (at 210ish a pair) sound better than my focal 165cvx coax's (at 250ish a pair). I guess what I am saying is that at your price range you aren't going to get perfect sound, but you can get really good sound.

But then again if you have your mind set on focal speakers, and you get them, it wouldn't be like you made a terrible decision or anything.

Well what I had in mind were the entry level focal components (165A1's) which sound great in person. I have not heard the infinity perfects but also like the idea of sticking with infinity as I know they sound great. My references in the past lacked all midbass but the highs were perfect (not MB piercing or anything). I guess my quandry is whether the top of the line infinity's are as good or better than the entry level focal components for about the same price. I can get the infinity's for less in the end I think.

JL 300/4 is what I have sitting around, but I would like to trade it for or sell it for an Alpine PDX 4.150 or 4.100... I have a JL 1000/1 and will likely be trading it for or selling it for an Alpine PDX 1.600 or 1.1000 depends on what Tech12Volt tells me about the box (2 subs or 1). Like the ability to stack the amps in the small space under the passenger side rear seat and then put the sub(s) under the larger space on the driver side under the rear seat.

I sent 200 watts at 4 ohms (bridged Alpine MRPF-450) to my Infinity Perfects. I have not heard the focal access ones that you are looking at. However, compared to my Focal 165k2p's that are getting 150 watts, the Perfects held their own against a speaker that cost 4 times the price of the perfects.

Both the perfects and the access speaker that you are looking at have a 4ohm impedence and a relatively low sensitivity 92 (focal) vs. 90 (inifinity).

I am not trying to sell the infinity's to you, but if it were me, I would get the perfects, bridge your jl amp to send 150 watts to them, and run the rear fill off the head unit. I am experimenting with no rear fill right now to see what it sounds like and I think I like it.

I am thinking about selling the 300/4 and 1000/1 and getting an alpine 1.600 for the JL slim sub and a 1.150 pdx amp for the front components and use headunit for the rear fill like you said.
