Default no FM/AM reception after installing aftermarket head unit

help,

I have a Highlander with JBL system,

I installed a new head unit but can't get AM
and very little FM reception.

the original JBL head unit had a diveristy antenna meaning two connectors, and the aftermarket head unit only has one antenna connection.

I hooked up the large OEM antnna but still don't have any AM signal and very little FM signal

do I need to send a signal to an antenna amp.

You need to purchase an adapter cable to connect your FM diversity antenna to your aftermarket head unit. the local stereo shop should be able to provide you one or just search online.Try www.calibex.com

Find the wiring diagrams for your Highlander. My '05 Sequoia has a small amplifier for the antenna system, which requires 12v power. If that's the case, just hook up your antenna turn-on lead from your aftermarket HU to the wire that supplies power to the antenna amplifier.
That's what I had to do with mine.
