Audio & StereoTechnical discussions about factory or aftermarket audio and video systems.
This is a discussion thread titled "Rear Seat Video", within the Audio & Stereo forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
I'm trying to find a solution to getting a video monitor so that the rear passengers can view dvd's, games, etc.
Headrest monitors would be nice, but for (2) they can be expensive, plus I have Wet Okole's and don't want to go cutting a hole in them for the monitors.
I was thinking of using (1) monitor and locating it in the rear sun-glass holder spot in the overhead console. (See pictures below)
It would be less expensive than 2 monitors, and still allow both rear passengers to clearly see the video.
I would think that getting the wires run from the head unit to the monitor would be a pain without taking down the console and headliner.
If anyone has any input...It would be appreciated.

I have been entertaining this as well, but I havent seen a monitor that small...seems to me it would sit down in the "holder" a bit and then cut off most of the pic...what dimensions are you going for?

I've seen some cheap 7" LCD monitors.
I was thinking of taking the dremmel and cutting out the sunglass pocket so the monitor could be mounted flush to the inside of the flip down.
The actual measurements of the flip down is close to 8" wide...easily wide enough for a 7" monitor.

Check out this place. I've been ordering stuff from them for years and they have always been reliable. Sales are catalog and over the phone however their prices are excellent.

One more thing...since the wiring is going to be the hardest part...
Does anyone have a pdf or something about how to remove the upper console / head liner and pillar covers?
I like to be prepared before I go ripping stuff off in there!

Over head is 4 torx screws two in the front panel 2 in the back then the whole unit drops down. unplug the light wires and its out. You can see pictures on this by downloading the install instruction for the auto dimming mirror on Sparks web site. As for the pillar covers the little doors in the Oh Sh*t handles hide the bolts. Remove them and the covers come right off. Be cautious in running wires down those because there are Air bag components in there. You will see when you get the covers off.
