Hey Mark thanks for the support and taking the time to explain things. i'm really excited to get things rolling now. i just got off work and i really want to go in the garage and start working on things but i'll wait until the morning, for now i'll be shopping for audio stuff since i'll be saving cash on installing everything myself(thanks for the idea).

i finally got some progress done, i ended up using 5/8" plywood to make the amp rack because i didnt have a piece of MDF large enough. i was supervised by Duece my oldest boy to make sure i wasnt slacking.
i guess for the the first time doing carpet it didnt come out to bad
i ran out of adhesive on the spearker box but majority of it is done
i did a test fit to see how it would look. i put carpet on the metal between the amp rack and window by tucking the carpet under the window, i still have to make cut outs and use velcro to secure it.

Man, I knew that was gonna come out nice. Good work Joe. lol, that box looks familiar.
When you carpet the metal area below the window, you can aslo use 3M spray adhesive to hold the carpet in place. Thats what I used and its still holding as good as the day I did it.
hey Mark, thanks for the help. i didnt want to use adhesive on that metal because i want to be able to remove it when i trade the truck in. i havent done anything else yet, i'm still waiting on all the stuff from SonicElectronic.com, my status still says processing so i will have to call them tomorrow and find out whats going on.
also i have to figure out what to do with my power wire. i completely forgot i already have (4 or 8g)wire running from the battery to the bed of the truck where the compressor for my train horns is. i'm trying to figure out if i should just run another 4g(i have laying around) for the system or going to get 0g and run it from the battery to the amp area then use a distribution block and 4g to the 2amps and the compressor.

today i installed the rear speakers in the doors. after talking to Mark we came up with the idea that instead of fighting to get the harness seperated to get the speaker wires through, just drill the harness while its still together. it worked out great since i was using 12g wire, i seperated the pos. & neg. speaker before the would go through the harness
once the wires were through the harness i grabbed a metal clothes hanger, threw some tape on the end and lubedd it up with soap and water. then i fed it from the speaker hole up the rubber boot and it went through with no problem
i just realized i never put up pics of my train horn set up, here's the compressor i'll have to get shots of the horns. the name of the company is wiped out because they did a CRAPPY(you know what i want to say!) job. after paying the $150 to install something that was basically plug and play because it was still assembled from my chevy truck, i had to go back and red all the fittings because they leaked and rebuild the enclosure because it was falling apart...and they had to nerve to put their name on it like they werer proud of their work.

after hounding Sonic Electronix i finally got any answer to whats going on with my order. they're telling me that the Metra dashkit is on backorder until next monday, but it said instock when i ordered it. so until the order comes i'll be making adapters for the front spreakers and playing with the idea of building a new sub box the fires downward.

make sure the adapters dont over lap the stock hole too far (on the front one anyways). i had to do some trimming on both of my front ones because the door panel hit it when i went to put it back on.
i you are working on the drivers side door, it would be on the right side of the speaker hole. right where the door panel snaps back into place i had to trim on my adapters. there isnt alot of room between the stock hole and where the door panel goes.
im sure the same goes for the rear, but i only had trouble with my fronts for some reason. it was just a paint in the rear because i had to take the adapter off the door, the speaker out of the adapter, and then trim to make it fit.

Cut them in the shape of the factory plate and they will fit just fine. Use the factory plate as your template, that way you'll retain the same mounting holes. I painted mine black so they dont stick out like a sore thumb behind the grill.
