hmm.... sounds like either the HU or the speakers then. do the speakers you have running off the external amp work?

i havent finish running the wires to the door speakers & connecting the amps yet. BUT i did find out what the problem was, apparently there's a setting in the head unit (the IP mode?) that allows you to turn on/off the RCA outputs and the speaker wire outputs. since i've always ran all my speakers off external amps the HU was set with the speaker wire outputs off. now we have sound, even if it's only from the dash speakers which by the way are loud! the HU also allows you to set the frequency of the speakers so i have to play with it more to get it right. but tomorrow i plan on getting majority if not all of the install done: finish installing front door speakers, connecting wires to amps(wires already ran to back of cab), connecting power wire to battery, reinstall seats.

good to hear you got it going. now all you have is the little crap that seems to take forever to do. im always a "wire freak". my wires have to be the same length, ran the same direction, tucked away nice, etc.... it took my forever to hook the amps and crossovers up.

this system is becoming a headache...and i dont mean because of the loudness. while trying to finish the system today i found out 4 of the 6ch of my old Kicker amp is blown so all i have is the dash speakers playing off the radio and the front door speakers on the good channels. THEN when i go to start the truck to go to the auto part store for some fitting, the truck wouldnt start! i didnt play the radio no longer than it would take to hear the vocals from each door speaker. i took the Red Optima to the auto part store to get it charged since it had been sitting for over a hear, i'll go pick it up tomorrow.

well i finally got the system up and running, it sounds pretty good. the fronts are nice and crisp not to mention loud. the subs pound hard when the windows are down but when the windows are up it seems the speakers dont breath well. i'm not sure why if the box is sealed, i've had that problem before but it was way more sub pressure and in a vented box. but other than that everything worked out good.

LOL. i figured it out, the alpine deck has the KHZ setting in the bass setting and i didnt have it set right. now the subs hit harder in a wider range. now i just need to get the screws to install the deck correctly.

time to blow the dust off this thread. since the last post i have changed mid/high amps from that old kicker to a new Crunch 1400.4 because the kicker just gave up on me. Wednesday i received my latest order, a Crunch 1400.2 and a set of Hifonics 5.25 components for the front. since i only ran 4ga the first time i'm going to take the truck apart(completely this time) and run 0/2ga plus make the wires look neater. its possible i'm going to build a new box, one that fires downward and maybe a tube port but thats still in the air.

i got up at 6am this morning and started tearing the truck apart, i had it completely bare other than the main part of the dash by sunrise. i ran new speaker wire from the highs amp to the area where the new components would go then added a 3rd RCA (2 for mids, 1 for subs) since my HU allowed for it. reinstalled the ipod cable so the ipod would charge as well as play through it. installed the crossover and woofer of the components, ran new power/ground wire from the new distribution box to the amps since the last one melted from the old subs amp. reinstalled everything but the seat and thats how i ended the day. of course i could of gotten it done but with it being V-day and all i didnt want to piss the Mrs of too much so the last 3 hours were spent at dinner and movies plus i owe her a walk on the beach in the morning but after that its back to the truck...i cant wait to hear how the subs pound from the new amp and the components scream.

i didnt get pics of the truck bare but i did get some before installing the seats so i'll post them, i'm actually proud of the way the wires look now compared to the first install.

So the box I built under the rear seat just isn't enough for me and the speakers are about blown so i'm looking to upgrade. Since noone ever sits behind me and rarely anyone sits behind the passenger i'm thinking of sacraficing the rear seat a little but it will be easy to have the full seat back if it's needed.

I'm thinking of doing a box like the one in the first picture on this page big box under seat. I need as much air space as possible for lower bass notes and since it's usually just me in my truck i thought this would work great
