Question Can the JBL speed nanny be defeated?

2008 crewmax SR5 with the JBL 6-disk, steering wheel controls and bluetooth. When at rest, the display on the stereo shows the telephone number of the call. When in motion, the display shows "incoming" or "talking". Can this be defeated such that the telephone number is displayed regardless of speed?

Ideally keep the ASL (auto sound levilizer) function working, but I would consider sacrificing that to get the the bluetooth display. I am assuming the ASL is also somehow connected to the speed sensor.

I have reviewed the speed nanny mods for the navigation units. The connectors and wiring harness for the JBL is not the same, I looked. I searched, but did not find any posts detailing this particular issue.

Thanks!

The non-nav JBL is not addressed in the nav unit thread. However, the speed pulse generator might work. I sent a note to wileetundra to inquire.

Does anyone know what happens if you simply cut the speed sensor wire to the non-nav JBL? From this post, it should be pin 4 on connector K9.

My guess is you will loose the speed sense volume control but your blue-tooth will show all the time. Unless the circuit needs some sort of input to function. You could always cut it and find out. If it doesn't work just reconnect. You don't even need to cut it just remove it from the harness. Each wire has a connector end that is held in the plug with a small pin or needle you can release the connector from the main plug and pull it out.

Hope this makes sense.

this would be my best guess too. since those are the only things affected by the vehicles speed.

the only question, is if disconnecting the wire, will give some type of error. because the ecm is still reading a wheel speed. but there is no data being recieved by the head unit. im not sure how interconnected the head unit is, with the CAN. but it should be a simple theory to test.

I cut the speed sensor wire last night. Incoming caller ID (telephone number) is now displayed regardless of speed and ASL (auto sound levilizer) still functions (it must be controlled by the external amp and not the head unit)!

On the back of the non-nav JBL head unit with 6-disk changer, bluetooth controls and the external (under passenger seat) amplifier; it's connector K9, pin 4, white wire. Cut the white wire. I then covered the cut wire with a bit of electrical tape.
