Default Aftermarket radio retain controls??

I have a LTD crewmax with the jbl system, but I wanted to upgrade to a nice kenwood navi system. Has anyone out there been able to do this while still retaining the steering wheel controls for seek, vol, phone answer, phone hangup?

Thanks in advance for your help.

I have a Kenwood 7120.

Volume - Yes
Track - Yes
Mode - Yes
Hands Free - Is now volume attenuation(mute)
Phone Answer/Hangup- No, but depending on the mode will do something.

In the end all buttons have some function, though not necessarily the original function

I have an 07 DC and just installed a Pionner Z2 Nav system in my truck. In order to have to some of the controls work I needed to install a PAC-SWI-X Universal Steering Wheel Radio Control Interface unit.

My Volume, mode and channel Up/Down work. I'm not sure about the phone answer ability, I found that using the Pioneer bluetooth system with my Z2 was like shouting down a sewer line.

Cheers

I have the Kenwood DNX8120 and steering wheel controls. You'll need the PAC SWI-JACK interface to keep your wheel controls with a Kenwood unit. The install is pretty straight forward. You'll need to solder in a 560ohm resistor in series with two wires off the factory harness. The details and instructions are included in the box, but can also be found on their site. Once installed you'll have to program the unit, but once thats done it'll retain memory and you should'nt have to mess with it again.

Its an easy install and well worth the effort.
