Installed my PDX4.100 today... I am getting a hissing sound from all 4 tweeters (front and rear)... I have removed the RCA cables but the sound persisted narrowing it down to the amp? I used the XLN402 monster speaker wire up front and XLN302 for the backs. Ran all the way through the doors. Anyone got some insite... My gains are set at +0.5 up front and 0 (nominal) in the back and set as high pass filter 40 HZ... At wits end right now, please give me some ideas...

Well first guess would be turning the gain all the way down and seeing if it is still there, if it is try a different ground. 2nd i would try another set of speaker wires, i have gotten bad ones before which caused this.
Bummer! I agree first check (amp) ground. Is this the first time using this amp? Do you have another amp you could use for a quick test? Describe your entire system....HU, speakers, etc.
You'll figure it out quickly, just takes some trouble shooting. On my old van I TWICE screwed through speaker cables when putting everything back together. And i consider my self to be pretty thorough and careful!

Headunit: Alpine IVA-W200
RCA Cables: Monster XLN401's
Amp Wiring: JL Audio 2 Gage 2 Amp Hookup Kit
Speaker Wiring: Monster XLN402 Speaker Cable (front), Monster XLN302 Speaker Cable (rear)
Crossover position: Inside doors
Amps: Alpine PDX4.100 (hissing), Alpine PDX1.600 (not running yet - waiting on sub)
Speakers: Focal 165KF (Front), Focal 165A1 (rear)
Condition: All items are brand new in box, hissing coming from all 4 tweeters only! but more pronounced on the passenger side front tweeter than the other 3...
Troubleshooting taken place: Removed RCA cables (hissing still there), Hissing not dependent on RPM and starts upon headunit startup and stop with headunit shutdown...

Speaker wires are run up the passenger and drivers sills, the power wire comes down the drivers side of the trans hump, the RCA's come down the passenger side of the trans hump... I have already ruled out RCA's since I unplugged them and the sound persisted, so its either the ground for the amp (which I find hard to believe since i mounted a separate grounding lug and sanded both sides of the metal before mounting it), the amp itself or the speaker wires... My next plan is to take a lose piece of wire and just hook it into the amp and pull the door panel and just drape it across the interior and run it to the crossover and see if that is the problem... if not the amp is probably the culprit and will get replaced.

Did the system work with other speakers before the amp was added?
Since it seems to be a problem with all four speakers, and you say the ground is good, I'd say it sounds like amp issue.
You might also try just taking all the HP/LP filter settings off and see what you get. It's also curious that all four tweeters are the problems here. It suggests that you should triple check there isn't some wrongly routed wires from crossovers etc.
If you disconnect the tweeters, and play at mid-level volume, does it sound clear and correct?
OK so I went out take a closer listen today, tweeked some settings (filters off, crossovers on the speakers all set at -3dB, etc.)... The hissing is only noticable from the passenger side front tweeter... I have narrowed it most likely and bad tweeter or a bad crossover since I swapped the driver and passenger side speakers at the amp and it still made the noise so it was not channel dependent... The front speakers are a completely under warranty demo pair from Tweeter closing sale so it could be damaged or the crossover could be damaged internally although nothing looks obvious...
The plan is to take both passenger side and drivers side front door panels off and swap only the tweeters first (this will see if it is the tweeter, if not, then I will swap the crossover... at this point I will post if I don't have a solutions. I will be honest, the speaker wire I ran is insulated enough to run next a power wire and not pick anything up so I'm confident its in the door panel somewhere. I also tried reversing the + and - on the tweeter with no effect on the noise.

Josh,
When I bought my Focal KPs, the crossover connector for one of the tweeter wires was just slightly loose. I re-soldered it and it worked like a champ. I mention this as a suggestion to check the board where the wire comes in.

I swapped crossovers and tweeters tonight (separately of course) and the problem remained on the passenger side. I then pulled the wire out and decided swap the passenger and driver side again and sure enough the sound stayed with channel 2... I realize now that the amp is the cause... or my next step at least... I am going to go ahead and stop by a stereo shop tomorrow and make sure then uninstall and take it back to best buy... Guess we will hope they hook a brotha up with a new one!

Well... a huge update... I went to best buy and got ANOTHER alpine PDX4.100... Still making the noise in the passenger front tweeter badly and the rest are making the same sort of noise, but very much quieter. I have heard that noise these days should be cut to almost nothing with modern equipment, but not the case here. It really probably is the speaker wires... I still have to go out and purchase a small spool and run it straight from the amp over the seats to the crossover with the panel off and see if the noise is really due to the speaker wire runs... To be continued!

I hope, this is really annoying... Is it possible that the ground is bad and it could be louder in 1 speaker than the rest, or would a bad ground on the amp cause ALL speakers to sound the same with hissing? I was going to check the ground but that requires ripping back out the rear seat and the rear drivers panel which I would like use as a last resort.

Since you've swapped out and checked most everything.......it seems to me that there must be some electronic interferance with the passenger tweeter wiring, or the crossover that feeds that tweeter. There could be some interferance from adjacent wiring somewhere in the tweeter's wiring path.
I would try a seperate wire like you mentioned from the crossover to the tweeter and then from the amp to the crossover to isolate the problem.
Sometimes simply coiling a wire can cause noise.

Thought about it more today... Since I can put the driver side speaker on the passenger is get the buzzing... and changing the amp did nothing... this therefore would mean that it is not the speaker wire and that is still has something to do with the amplifier power... could be amp ground I guess? That is all I can think of! This is getting really old and I want to give up!
