What seemed to go very smoth, has turned into a nightmare.
I was adding a touchscreen radio and Nav unit with bluetooth control in my new 2008 tundra. I used included harnesses and only tappend in the truck in 3 places. the reverse and speed pulse wire (from info found in this forum) and then the e-brake wire, which is easy.
Now i have lost back slider windo control, turn signals, all head light function, parking lights. reverse light on dash.
I have rechecked everything. taken the dash aprt 3 times. checked fuses.
has anyone had a problem like this?
I did notice the dealer left a bunch of wire taps on the security system they use, but I have checked them too.
Work start early tomorrow and cant get there without headlights.
Re: Help Big problems with radio/ nav install tundra
there is a complete installation guide in pdf form in the forum. i had downloaded it on my other computer. if you have the non jbl model like i do, the install is a nightmare. you need to buy a wireharness adapter, a jbl amp, and like 8 other parts from toyota. after buying the head unit and seeing all this, i decided to sell it and go aftermarket. check out boyo nav units around $5-600 alot of bang for your buck
Re: Help Big problems with radio/ nav install tundra
you would probably get better help in the audio forum. if there is a mod that can move this??
are you trying to install a stock NAV unit, or aftermarket??
either way, if you lost a bunch of electrical functions. you must have tapped into a wrong wire somewhere, that caused a short. if you need your truck right away. then remove the taps you made for the time being. so you can use your truck. then come back to the install when you have the time.
also, what type of connections were you using. you should use a butt connection at the least. but a solder would be preferable. those clip taps are junk. and are known for causing electrical problems.
Re: Help Big problems with radio/ nav install tundra
hey guys thanks for the responses.
I am taking out the stock very basic single (non JBL ) radio. I am adding an Eclipse total navigation and entertainment system. Everything with the radio, Navigation, blue tooth went great and work fine. It was after I put everything back together I noticed the items not working that i mentioned. I have since removed everything and all evidence that I added a system other than the phone controller I added on the steering column. If I take that out it will leave a small hole. I have the feeling I have blown some kind of relay or maybe messed up a computer. Truck runs great and everything back to stock, but items still not working. I have even disconnected the battery and let the truck sit for a while. no luck
I was very excited to post just how great this system is and will do so, once the prob is fixed..
Re: Help Big problems with radio/ nav install tundra
Hello...I guess I would check the manual for fuses and relay that have to do with the headlights...replace the fuse if it is blown...try swapping relay with another of the same type (if there is one in relay panel) temporarily. If you blew something out in the ECU, its back to the dealer thou...B.
Re: Help Big problems with radio/ nav install tundra
FIXED...and no trip to the dealer!!
When I was exploring behind the dash I found a harness< thinking that I was going to have to use it, I took the tape off and removed the blank end cap. Guess what< the end cap never made it back on and was thrown in the pile with the trash. This end cap is obviously important, but very forgetable. Everything is working great. Thanks for the assistance, could you imagine how big the dealer bill would have been?

I will post the end result later.
thats really weird that leaving a plastic end cap off, would cause a short. i would think you would physically have to stick a wire into the connector. but thats great that you figured out your problem.
