Default adding amp to stock radio

I was wanting to add a 8" sub in one of my storage compartments on my 05 ac. I have the stock radio(non jbl) so I will need a line converter to get rca cables right? To do this I need to splice into a speaker wire. Do I do that at the rear of the radio or at the stock amp (which I think is under the passenger rear seat under the black plastic shield). If so which color wires go to the rear speakers? I was going to put the box and amp under the drivers rear seat with the jack.

I would do it at the amp. For wiring info see: Search

Crutchfield has a ton of helpful info.

This sure is a popular question!

FWIW, you can purchase an amp with speaker level inputs and do without having to use a line out converter, if you're so inclined.

I'd either splice into the speaker wires BEFORE the stock amp or run two new cables straight back to the head unit and splice into the harness. You can find the wiring diagram for your model using search.

I already have a punch amp that I took out of my jeep. I went by a shop and they wanted $300 to wire the amp and put in a sub but I figured I could do it myself for $100.
I just need to figure out before or after the amp.
Is the stock amp in the passenger side storage compartment?

Before the amp.

If you want to do a clean job and not cut the factory wires, you can purchase a vehicle harness for the wiring that attaches to the radio AND a radio (reverse) harness that attaches to the radio. Then wire all of the corresponding wires (on both harnesses) together and add your line level converter to the rear speaker wires (where you connected the harnesses together.)

I got it put in and hooked. I put my kicker 10 under the passenger seat storage area in my ac. It doesnt sound to good. Would an 8 or a free air sub do better?
