Decided to go with a new deck and a bunch of other crap to update the JBL stereo in my DC. Since I'm getting this far into it, might as well get more fun stuff.
I've been searching and reading on here all morning, looking at other peoples setups. Lots of good ways to go....what I want to do is stay as close to stock as possible, with no cutting (or as little as possible), and without cutting or removing the plastic under my seat. I'm not opposed to adding some foam or Dynamat to it, to stop any rattles of course.
Is this possible, using a shallow mount sub such as a Kicker Comp VT either 8 or 10", a Clarion SFW1051, or something in the JL line...I'm open to suggestions in sub size, but I would like to stick with one of those 3 makes, as my good friend is a dealer for those. This doesn't need to be a competition stereo (clearly) just something that sounds nice to an average joe like me.
So I'm thinking to go with one of these subs, seal up the compartment good, fab up some MDF for the top piece and good to go??
I'm gonna do the two 8's and see how it goes....like I say, it's not going in a competition anytime soon, just want it to sound like something cause the low-end in the stock JBL is pretty lame
I have an 05 DC, and I will be installing two JL Audio 8" subs in the next week or so:
I will see how much cutting, etc there is involved, like you I want to keep things as close to stock as possible.
I did a complete upgrade to the audio and went with JL components for the front/back doors. On the sub side, using (2) 8" JL W3 in the back of my 2000 Access cab with the Qlogic box. It gives a clean, stealth setup and the sound is excellent for what I wanted.

Yep no cutting involved, what has everyone used for spacing between the plastic underside of the seat and the sub enclosure? I haven't sealed the compartment or carpeted the baffle, I went camping and wanted some low end kick for the trip. I re-used the amp from the bazooka sub enclosure that came with the tundra. The JL Audios sound at least 10 times better than the bazooka sub did!
