I am doing an install and have a question. I hooked up my stuff and whatnot and got the red light of death on the amp, the protection mode light. My question is am I a fool for thinking I could ground the amp behind the molding on the rear wall of the truck? I got frustrated because I was doing this with my old equipment and just as a test as I am going to use the same amp in this setup. I had a short amount of time and got frustrated and did not go through all the troubleshooting steps, just broke it all down and put it away.

I would not think the ground is the issue. Double check the speaker leads, more likely one of those is shorted somewhere.

Another thing to look at is to make sure that the input sensitivity is within the amp's limit. Most amps are only 2 - 4 volts.

I think I am gonna wait till my 10" eclipses come and fill that void in the lonely box in my garage before I put everything back in.
