Default I hate the aftermarket alarm that came in my truck.

I thought you guys in this forum might be able to help.

I recently purchased an '05 Tundra 4 door xsp with an aftermarket (scytek) alarm system. From some research I've concluded that its cheap chinese crap. The key fobs are immitation carbon fiber and generally very cheap feeling.

so far the system has:
1)kept my passenger front window from functioning (I opened up the door panel and cut out the alarm wires previously spliced into the door harness to fix)

2)when the key fob battery dies it seems to arm the alarm before dying. I go out to my truck and physically unlock it to get the screeching alarm with no way to shut it off.

3)occasionally I come out to find my drivers window rolled down 2"

This scytek system is crap and I would much prefer just a factory keyless entry (which I assume it came with). I don't have a factory keyless fob or know if the factory system is still functional.

Any thoughts or ideas?

thanks,
Andy

You may want to contact a dealership just to ask the question. I don't know how much new key fobs are for keyless entry. You could also give them your VIN # and they may be able to tell you if keyless entry came with your vehicle.

I have the keyless entry on my 06 DC because that is what came with the vehicle when I purchased it last Dec. I would have liked an alarm system and actually thought there was one installed because I saw an LED mounted on the console. Later when I was at home checking everything out I discovered I only had the keyless entry system, no alarm. There was evidence that an alarm system had been installed but it was a pretty poor job. I had wires shorting out in my drivers door which led to the door locks locking and unlocking whenever I opened or closed the driver side door.

I did some research and also purchased a Viper. Have not installed it yet and I will do it myself because after what I saw I wouldn't trust someone else to do it... unless they came very highly recommended.

I recently upgraded to the Viper 5901 alarm and remote start. You pay a little more, but, I wanted my Toy protected better. Just a thought.

Most likely the factory keyless is still there if the truck was equipped originally. The best you could do would be to take the truck to a reputable shop to have the aftermarket alarm removed. Don't cut wires or unplug the unit, that might stop other things from working, including the ability to start the truck. I have seen some very bad alarm installs, and they can really cause a lot of issues. Let an expert fix it if you are not sure, that way they can get all things back to normal. As for the factory keyless, you need to get a fob and whatever it takes to program it, probably from the dealer, although Autozone sells replacements for some vehicles. Hope this helps.....

Just follow the wires from the alarm system & unplug it or pull the fuse. Most alarms are installed close to the fuse box.

Look under the hood & see if you see a pig-tail laying on the fenderwell under the brake booster with the piezo buzzer/beeper attached. This is a really fast way to see if you have remote entry. The VIN# at the deal may work, but my dealer had no clue,, but that is just my dealer.
