Default Change Kenwood 9140 boot screen to Toyota image...

Hey guys... this is a "How To" on changing the boot screen on a Kenwood 9140. The foctory boot screen is pretty boring and VERY bright at night. So here is how to change the boot screen to a custom image of your own.

I have attached an image I created for my Tundra TRD and a picture of what it looks like in my truck. Its a HUGE difference when the unit is booting up.

First save your image to a thumb drive. Saving it in the root directory makes it easier.

-Boot up the 9140
-Hold down the SRC and Volume Down buttons at the same time.
-While holding down those buttons hit and release the Rest Button using a pen or paper clip.
-Keep holding the SRC and Volume Down button until the lights on all your buttons light up..... then release SRC/Vol buttons
-Plug your USB drive into the USB plug on the back of the 9140
-Select "Kenwood Image"
-Select "USB Drive"
-Select the photo you would like to change it to.
-When it is done loading hit the reset button again and enjoy a new boot image.

I know this method works on the 9140 and should work on most newer models. On the older Kenwood models you have to hit the SRC button and the Eject button.

The image size I am using is 1280x720 and the image looks perfect.

Good write up.... thanks. I had to send mine out for repair, but when it gets back I'm gonna try it.... that looks so much better than the Kenwood boot up screen.

Try holding down SRC and the Eject button. That should work for you.

I have a DNX 8120.

How do I change the boot screen for this unit?

Does anyone have any ideas?

I am thinking about buying a 9140. How long does it take to startup/boot? Is there any delay between putting the transmission in reverse and the time to see the backup camera on the screen? Would you recommend the 9140?

Thanks,
JV

I like the unit and its very expandable.... I am installing a rear cam this week. I will give you an update on it then.

As far as boot times... its a little slow but now that I have my custom TRD image it doesnt bother me so much

FTM - would you mind emailing me that file? It looks awesome!

I tried right clicking and saving but the file size is only 47kb so I don't think it will look that great.

Thanks!
