Not a car audio expert, but when I installed new speakers into my crewmax, I had an amp installed to power the 4 door speakers and sub and it is like night and day. Before the amp was installed, I would normally have to have the volume up to about 33 or so to hear it going down the road. Now, If I have it about 15, I can't hear myself think. Amazing what a little more juice does to speakers. I don't have a new HU like you do, just the stock 6-disc, but even if I put a new HU in, I am convinced that an amp is worth the price.

They will sound better than stock without an amp. With an amp providing the right amount of power they will come ALIVE. More distortion free volume means you can better appreciate the musical detail and clarity at normal volumes.

I once had a set of Eclipse components that were getting about 120 watts per channel rms from my AMP. Those got replaced with Hertz components and a different head unit. When I changed trucks I dug around in the garage and found the old Eclipse 2 ways which sat aruond for about a year and put them back in along with an old Alpine HU I had laying around. The Hertz, new HU, and the amp got moved to my new truck and I traded my Dakota in with the Eclipses run off the head unit just so there'd be something to fill in the tweeter holes. When I ran no amp I was oblivious to the difference one makes. After 4 years of running with an amp and then driving it for a day or so with none it was like night and day. Before I could crank the head unit to 29 or 30 of 35 distortion free if I wanted to and the music would be crystal clear with every single detail coming through.

With the speakers off the HU the sound got muddy and distorted around 15-16, before it really started to come alive.

Don't waste amp power on the rears. Amp the fronts only, attenuate the rears. Your resources are much better used getting as much power as you can to the fronts. The rears can be loud enough to serve their purpose off the head unit. Shouldn't be too expensive to find a 50-80 watt 2 channel for that setup. Any decent brand name equipment will do. Among 2 mainstream amps at similar power levels you will be hard pressed to hear the difference.

As far as an amp, I'd go with the JL Audio HD600/4.
