Default Stereo noise going in and out

I had a complete sound system installed in my 2001 Tundra 7 years ago. I got all new speakers, amp, sub, tweaters, and head unit when I had the install. I am now running into a problem while I drive. Every now and then the sound will cut out of my sub, or sometimes the sound will cut out of my entire right side of the truck, along with my sub. It can be out as long as ten minutes, but all compenents will go back to normal and I have my stereo working.
I have your basic wiring skills, nothing fancy. I went to the shop who installed my stereo and they said I had to bring it in. I really dont want to spend all the money getting it fixed and them determining the problem if I could find it on my own. Does anyone on here have any ideas on where to start that I might be able to determine the problem on my own and not have to take it into the shop? I was not sure if it was loose wires, head unit is going out, or my amp is going out. Any help is definitely appreciated. Thanks

I would start trouble shooting the most obvious spots before you take it in. Pull out the headunit and make sure all your connections are secure there, check the amps for secure connections as well.

Well I took apart my head unit and all of the wires looked intact with the head unit. I will look at my amp probably tomorrow. I have to take apart my seat to do it and I don't have a lot of time right now to do it.

I took out my seat today and looked at the amp and everything is hooked up and no problems whatsover. I drove around a little bit in the morning and the sounds started going out again. Does anyone have any others ideas I could tackle? Thanks

To me that sounds like a heat issue. Check ventilation and fans if you have them. Especially with an old install like this you may have picked up some "dust bunnies" clogging your system. If this checks out ok, when does the system cut out? During heavy usage? Once again heat issues, components do degrade over the years and may not be up to the punishment. If it happens on a bumpy road I’d say it’s a wiring issue. Intermittent issues are hard to find but have an Ohm meter on and when the next time it happens pull over and start verifying connections.

Good luck.

Do you have separate amplifiers for the main speakers and sub? Or, are the mains powered by the deck and subs by a separate amp? If the main speakers and the subs are powered by different amplifier sources, then the problem is most likely with the head-unit. If all of the speakers are powered by a single amplifier, then the problem could be either the head-unit or amp. Try swapping the left and right channel outputs from the head-unit to see if the problem switches sides. If it does, then the source of the problem would be the head-unit. If it doesn't, then the problem is downstream of the source.
