2001 Tundra Sound System, would like ideas and help
I have a 2001 tundra sr5 access and want to upgrade speakers and stuff. Also main idea is to put some sort of subwoofer but need best way to place it, all on stock radio. Any help or ideas would be great.
Re: 2001 Tundra Sound System, would like ideas and help
I stuck with the factory radio/amp and front door woofers. I replaced the door sizzler/tweeters with tweeters that add clarity, replaced the rear door speakers with 3way 6x9's(slight overkill) and added a JL stealthbox under the center console, driven by a 300w amp under the passenger seat. I used dave navone's line convertor to tap off the rear speakers for the amp feed. It can be wired and hidden behind the A/C control panel. I have to throttle back the bass at the radio, up it at the amp, to keep it fairly linear. I bought an alpine unit to throw in there, but it sounds well enough not warrant it, IMHO.

welcome to the forum. Its tough to stay stock isn't it? This is like a support group for tundra addicts. Best thing to do is study what others have done first, then decide what you really want from your system. the stock system isn't too bad in these trucks. First thing I did was install an alpine cd/ipod player. same week I knew the speakers couldn't hang so I put infinity coaxials in the rear doors and infinity separates in the front doors. before I knew it, had an amp and capacitor under the back seat and a few 12s too. Now I have one good 12 instead of two so-so 12s. Been itching for a 15 but it's not the time.

Thanks for all the input, really, i have to keep it look stock because my dad hates all the aftermarket decks and stuff but i will look around and get ideas. also how do you take off the rear doors on the AC?
Re: 2001 Tundra Sound System, would like ideas and help
ahh. gotcha. if you change the door speakers only they will make a better sound, just don't crank them too loud, you may damage your stock deck. You may have trouble finding an amp that will work with the stock deck but there are adapters. I had a kenwood that had inputs/outputs for speaker wire. it intercepts the signal when you cant run rca cables.(stock cant use rcas.) If you're going stealth to avoid pops, put a 10" in the compartment under the rear seat. wouldn't be hard to build a box there. amp can go under a front seat, make sure controls are easy to see/ get to.

Thats hella sick, my original plan was to take out the back cupholder compartment, get a box to fit one 10", not really discreet as yours but still an option. did u just run the wires through the sides of the car? also to hook up an amp i just need a rca converter to the back of the stock right?
Re: 2001 Tundra Sound System, would like ideas and help
yup, if you can find a converter that works. just be sure to run rca cables as far from the power/ground cables as you can to avoid engine noise.
