so after looking at all 30 some odd pages of the diy threads ive decided to tackle a handful of em. first off i live in KC and i rode my sportbike all the way to georgetown KY and threw it in the back and drove home. i loved this truck from day one. but i wanted to make it mine mine. so i joined up here and have done the following.
headlight mod (with a twist)
6k headlights
blacked out tail lights
powder coated 18" alloys
linex bumpers...sucks
2%tint...officer checked it...no likey
bought a factory bed liner
mdf/carpeted the back wall
installed a flowmaster exhaust
mounted/ installed my amp 1k clarion, kicker cvt 10" subs, ddx7019, kna-g510
backseat mod (one of my personal fav's!)
JUST finished painting my door handles AND tailgate handle with color coded paint
JUST painted my grill surround and toyota symbol!
removed the god awful vinyl
only thing left to do is sandblast and powdercoat my bumpers. and i really want to pick up a set of those clazzio seat covers too!
what do ya guys think?? im in love! lol ill post up pics of the door handles in the daylight tomorrow! the tailgate looks really sharp!
Lookin good.... looking real good. What Kenwood HU is that... the 7100?
Love the garden hose you used for your power wire, lol. At least you future proofed yourself for the next amp.
LOL thats funny! ya 1 gauge is some big boy cable for sure. but ya i have a tendancy of going overboard so who knows what the future has in store. could be a huge sub back there one day lol and its a 7120. i have a 8019 but i liked the larger screen and there isnt much difference.

Lookin bad as hell. I saw your earlier post where you wanted to do the grill/handles. you don't waste time! good job. Just the bumper left, not for long I bet.

lol thanks bud! ya ive had a few weeks off from work so ive been keeping myself busy with stuff to do around the house. the bumpers may just have to wait til spring but who knows it should only cost me under 200$. im really leaning towards leather interior though and thats at least 500. but im full of surprises and you just may see a thread called "look at my new bumpers!!" next week lol
painting itself wasnt too hard or time consuming. prep work is key! ive never painted anything before and i watched a couple youtube vids and read some articles on here and i went for it. started with the handles to get a feel for it, then went ahead and did the grill. what it woulda cost me to buy the 2 painted sequoia handles i ended up painting everything for almost the same price. hardest part was getting the tailgate handle off and on. those springs had me worried.
G13...looks decent but you might want to work on the grill surround where your reflection is...appears to be a fair amount of "orange peel" in that section of finish

i i sent that exact picture to a painter buddy of mine to find out what i did wrong. he said it could be a number of reasons, temp, coverage, time, prep work. he said if im not happy with it just go ahead and sand her down again and give it another whack.
i think i didnt do the clear coat "glassy enough" in fear of creating runs. ill prolly redo it in the spring time or so. live and learn, this was literally the first time painting something of any importance. i learned a few things and next time will be better.

hey you gave it a shot...I was just trying to be honest without being a jerk and pointing out the flaws that I saw and you obviously knew about....I just tend to be a perfectionist and I know it wouldn't be good enough for me and am happy to see its not for you either....look forward to seeing the improved version when you get around to it....we all have to start somewhere! Kudos to you for taking the leap!
