As it currently stands, you need the amp, if only for the difficult to find 20-pin connector that plugs into the back of the 3-in-1 or 6CD unit.

If you can find the 20-pin connector, with flying leads still attached, we can help you make the appropriate power and line-level out connections to the amplifier(s) of your choosing. To make it all work, you would need to solder several RCA connectors to the flying leads.

Easiest way to go, find someone selling it with the amp.

Mark

I've noticed many stock Toyota CD's (3 in 1 type) for sale on ebay, but only a few with the associated amp. Do you have to have the amp? I'm looking to install one of the stock 6 CD in dash changers and I currently have the AM/FM/Cassette CD ready unit with 4 speakers. Thanks.

You may not be able to find the JBL amp because the initial ones installed in earlier model Solaras 2004-2005 was defective-this I have found out because mine has just gone bad! Toyota issued a service bulletin on this and the dealer had the option of replacing the defective unit, if under warranty, per the attached TSB. The part number for the oem is listed in this document as well.
Replacements out of warrantee are costly-about $400 and therefore, I too, would appreciate hearing how this issue may have been dealt with by others in the past, i.e. how to locate and replace this defective part, if any other comparable amps will work, how other dealerships may have been coaxed to replace this known issue after warrantee?
Thanks, in advance, for whatever anyone knows about this annoying problem.
