    Lightbulb Stubby antenna mod?

    All,

I 've been trying to picture my Tundra with the stock antenna removed, hole plugged, and a short stubby one installed on the rear of the roof, similar to the BMW roof antenna.

Maybe not exactly like this, but you get the idea. Would an antenna like this work? Is it even a radio antenna?

    Interested in your comments.

    Jim

EDIT: Actually, I just realized this is probably a GPS antenna, not a FM/AM antenna. It's too short for that.

I don't know what you are going to do with that fender hole that won't just make a mess of things.

Here is what I added, billet stubby antenna. Works a little better then OEM, and doesn't snag garage door anymore...plus the black semi tape job they did had to go!

Has anyone else bought one of those in the link above? I also found this. It looks like the same thing but I can't quite tell for sure. My antenna is smacking the garage door something fierce! I've got to get a shorter one, but don't want the hook-up hassle of a power antenna.

    How's the reception? Thanks!

I got a short Cellular Style one from AutoZone to suffice for now.

My uncle bought a 330Ci, and I stole his antenna and base when he had it parked at my house one night. Mocked it up against the taco, where the stock hole is. PERFECT FIT. My uncle wasnt happy I took his car apart though.

Now, where to find a 330Ci antenna and base I can use...

    Default short antenna mod

I bought a small black flexible antenna from Autozone for about $6.00 to replace my OEM antenna. I cover my 04DC Tundra with a cab only cover most nights and it was too hard to get it over the OEM antenna. It is only about 12 inches long and always looks bent, but works just fine. Reception is adequate for me, but I rarely listen to the radio, anyway. It is especially useful when driving through heavy brush on a south Texas ranch that I do wildlife photography on. Replacement was simple enough. Just screw the original out and screw in the new antenna.

Well, why not go back to your uncle?

I have a real short nine inch antenna on my truck, and it does affect the radio reception. This isn't a problem for me, because most of the time I listen to MP3s on my Creative Zen Micro 5GB or to CDs.
